Manning doesn't panic though, he keeps his head down the middle of the field. This causes all the LB's to keep dropping towards that direction and Reid heads that way too. On the backside, the receiver is able to drive Brock upfield to open up his inside cut.

Because Manning's head kept all the defenders flowing that way, it opens up a space for the backside receiver to work.

The space he had was again, just enough. He gets the ball over the LB into the space for his receiver. We had 8 men in coverage against 3 receivers and he still beat us, just by his head movement and knowing that his backside receiver was going to have inside leverage.

Rusty Brock. I think he breaks on that better if he were 3 or 4 games in. That's my main concern when Bo gets back.

That's why I'm so worried about this offense. Everyone will be rusty when they get back on D. This season could get out of hand with a couple more losses heading into the later Seattle/Arizona games. There's no need to analyze tape of defensive play from the Denver game. Missing Aldon, Bowman and Willis is a no brainier. It's not really even our defense at that point. People should be asking what happened with the offense but I suppose that's obvious too. Mistakes.... a clutch turnover, spotty o line play and drops. Denver could have won with 2 TD's. cut out the drops an the costly turnover and we keep Manning off the field while scoring points. It could have been a game even with our decimated defense. I walked away from that game pissed off at the offense. No excuse for that sort of s**tty play, from everyone not named Johnson/Lloyd.

everyone else is wondering how the d vanished. Still like to see a breakdown of our action on the pass rush - invisible.

The defense vanished when we had no Aldon/Bowman/Willis/Dorsey. Offense had to step up and they didnt. Not by a long shot.
we've been playing without Bowman Smith and Dorsey all season. still had a top 5 defense. and we got Brock back. so I don't buy the woe is me injury excuse I didn't expect to win this game. we got schooled. I don't think we executed to get pressure on Manning that was the story. that's the main reason we look potato. nothing in the backfield really mattered. We're never going to match up against those guys. We have to get pressure on Manning.

From what I gathered, Brock was forced to play because of lack of bodies (ward, culliver etc...). We really were playing with a mash unit on the outside. While we were playing at a top 5 level, the pass rush had been sketchy at best so far this year. So I really do think the injuries/suspension is the reason why we have had limited pass rush for the season and specifically last Sunday night.

You throw in the fact we lost our "qb" on defense, and factor in we were without our 3 best lbers and unfortunately an ass kicking is the result vs the nfl's hottest team.

The fact we have been performing at a top 5 level with no pass rush is very encouraging. I think aldon is gonna have a transformative force on this defense when he returns. I would imagine he will be heavily schemed against and other guys should greatly benefit.

At least that's my hope, because if this unit gets healthy I think it can be our best defense of harbaugh's tenure.

Personally, outside of Lynch, I'm not really impressed with any other of our pass rushers. Justin can occasionally get pressure but he's mostly double teamed. Brooks isn't very consistent on his pass rush production. I personally think, unless he gets a good jump on his guy, he can get tied up and locked up on his pass rush. Willis has elite speed to blitz, but neither Borland or Wilhoit have the speed and power to destroy HB blitz pickups like Willis has. Bottom line, I just don't think we have a very good pass rush without Aldon. Lynch is developing, but he's a rookie and while he's brought the heat, he's not an elite player like Aldon is.

Losing Willis was indeed losing the QB of the defense, but also losing a lot of pass rush pressure too.

Even with Aldon, the Niners pass rush seems to be streaky if I'm remembering right lol. I think that's mostly the result of Fangio's scheme and the fact that the rush is mostly coming from Justin and Aldon. This is why I'm at least a little excited that Lynch is showing some promise as a pass rusher. If he maintains his level or improves when Aldon gets back, that could be a very good combination out there. The general idea is teams will focus on Aldon and Justin, giving Lynch more one on one opportunities.

I'm with you on the loss of Willis. He's the heart and soul of the defense. Along with his talent, his leadership is not easily replaced.

Agree about the potential elevation of the pass rush once Aldon gets back, and I'm not yet giving up on Lemon-Yay yet either. He looked decent rushing the passer in garbage time in the Donkey game. If he can just develop that counter move and bull rush, he'll be a good one too. But yeah, the key to our defense and our post-season is Aldon. P Willis is all pro and the QB of the defense and makes this defense solid, but Aldon takes this defense to another level. A superbowl caliber level.

Lol. clutch turnover. I've never heard anybody call the beginning of the 3rd quarter in a regular season game a clutch moment.

I have heard people grasp at straws to put more onus of a loss on Kap.

Just catch easy passes and don't commit a stupid penalty and Denver needs more than 2 TDs.

Spotty oline play? Try one of the worst games i've ever seen our oline play. And sadly, that includes Staley.

Edit: even on that CLUTCH turnover Looney let a D lineman run right by him. Everybody's been giving Talib and that lineman praise for coming up so CLUTCH in such a CLUTCH moment.......not.

Without Aldon I still think it's a very, very strong defense provided everyone is healthy. At the absolute minimum it's a top 10 defense, likely top 5. It would be really nice to see Lemonier develop a bit more so we could see a nice rotation of Brooks, Lynch and him. That would keep the pass rush fresh all game.

Despite the defense's performance in the Denver game, I'm really more concerned about the offensive line. It seems the line has become a serious liability for both the pass and run game. Gore can't find any room to run and Kap barely has time to go through a read. The line needs to gel in a hurry to help jump start this offense. I like what I'm seeing from Kap and I think he's showing marked improvement from last year. He's much more willing to climb the pocket than he was last year and he looks comfortable doing it.

I'm with you WilliamDonovan on the spotty o-line play. That was a horrendous display and rather concerning to me. As I said in my above post, it wasn't limited to poor pass blocking as has been their weakness in the past. It seems that their run blocking has degraded as well. I'm comfortable saying the line was the major contributing factor in the offense's struggle in Denver.

not quite; the fact we got killed in that game was cuz we didnt play enough press/jamming man coverage. has nothing to do with injuries, rookies, no pass rush, the fact it's peyton at milehigh out there.

The game got out of hand after the int. the defense was gassed and the very next drive Denver scored a TD. Then our offense came back and missed ANOTHER opportunity to score a TD and put Manning back in the field without putting up 7. The overthrow of Lloyd hurt. Yes Kaepernick made clutch mistakes. Why deny this? And I never said it was all on Kap. The drops also took TD's of the board and handed Mannjng the ball. Our offense didnt preform either. The defense was missing 4 starters, including Willis which was the "last straw". Going into the game I understood the offense would have to score over 30 and they couldn't get it done. . . (Edit) Just read your edit. LOL. Kaepernick had Ellington open for the first down on the same side if the field and had plenty of time to get the ball to him. The O line didn't make Kap throw that int it was a bizzare mistake. f**k I'm tiered of you people making excuses. You're the reason I focus on Kap. Knock this s**t off. It's silly.

Ya sure. Missing Willis, Bowman, Aldon and Dorsey had no impact on the game. Ya, OK. The starting offense only scoring ten points and keeping Manning on the field also had no impact. Sure. OK.

No you didn't say it was all on Kap....BECAUSE YOU CAN'T. You do try turn the 3rd quarter of a reg season game into a "clutch" moment so you can put more onus on Kap. Why deny this?
