San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy once again proved his value in 2025, guiding the team to the NFL playoffs despite a roster hit hard by injuries. It marked the third postseason appearance in his four NFL seasons.
Purdy battled adversity of his own. A turf toe injury sidelined him early in the season and lingered longer than expected. After returning to the lineup, however, the 49ers quarterback delivered efficient, poised performances, finishing with 2,167 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions across nine starts.
Still, Purdy's impact on the 49ers extends well beyond the stat sheet.
Speaking with Kay Adams this week, 49ers owner Jed York emphasized that Purdy's leadership and character are what truly set him apart.
"It's not the numbers that impress me about Brock," York said. "It's who he is as a person. And I say this all the time: when you look at all the analytics that go into drafting, Brock is 6-1, 6-2. If Brock was 6-4, he's a first or second-round draft pick.
"When you look at his heart, and you look at what he does, and how he fights, he has such a strong belief in himself, and he is such a grounded person."
York also pointed to the adversity Purdy overcame during the season. The injury, suffered in Week 1 in Seattle, forced him to miss time and fight through discomfort down the stretch.
"He had a very bad toe injury, got it in the first week in Seattle, tried to fight through it, had to take some time off," York said. "It was not an easy season for him. He definitely played with pain this season, but he's mentally tough enough to get through it.
"And he's the type of guy that's going to sit there and help Mac Jones go be the best that Mac can be. Brock is the ultimate teammate. He's what you want your franchise quarterback to look like."
The 49ers identified Purdy as their franchise quarterback early in his career. Last offseason, they reinforced that belief by signing him to a five-year, $265 million contract extension, securing him as the team's starter through at least the 2030 NFL season.
For York and the 49ers, Purdy's value isn't just measured in wins or statistics. It's defined by leadership, resilience, and the standard of excellence he sets in the locker room.
After everything this season brought, 49ers owner Jed York couldn't say enough about Brock Purdy ❤?
