With Harvin getting a year under their system and additions like Allen....seems they are ready for another SuperBowl run.

I really do hope Roman pulls his head out of his arse this season.
We are coming regardless of what they do!

What's the deal with the Patriots? The Patriots are undoubtedly one of the most successful teams in the league but their draft efficiency, according to this simplified analysis, is among the worst in the league. We will circle back to this issue in future articles.

What so frequently happens when your head coach is also your GM. Also doesn't hurt that the team has been highly successful so you end up with less potential for starters through the draft.

One also has to remember you pay a price for success. Your coaches, your player personell- they all move on. Also, drafting near the end doesn't help. The one thing the patriots haven't done is trade down to get multiple picks recently. They used to do that with regularity. In part it is like Walsh-he had a rep for trading and making moves on draft day- got to the point where teams got wary because he would get someone good and teams that gave him the pick and missed with the pick they got in return, would cause fans from the opposition to possibly think we could have....

I agree with your comment. It does hurt drafting last. The draft, in reality, is a lottery. The higher you draft, the more potential for luck to give you a great player. Sometimes it's that one or two great player that make the difference for an entire decade. We all know that as we look at Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, and Ronnie Lott. The draft is many times a hit or miss. Walsh had his share of miffes and busts, just like any other coach.

Now add the CAP to the situation where the Draft already spread the talent evenly as much as possible among the NFL teams, and you have very little difference in talent between any two teams. Now the great players you are lucky to draft, costs a ton to keep, and they are not on your team very long. I think if you look at the top tier teams, the difference now is the coaching. Then the more successful you are as a coach, you begin to lose your assistant coaches.

It's really really difficult to win super bowls consistently as a dynasty in the post cap era. The fact that we've gone to "practically" three of them in a row (meaning that we are the team that gave the ultimate Super Bowl winner, the toughest challenge, the last three times) means that we should be starting to regress to the mean and become average soon. I hope not. But if modern post cap statistics hold up, we should not have a great season this year.
If that happens it will have more to do with our staff being unable to develop new unscouted concepts to execute against our opponents than an exodus of talent.

This. Talent has never been the issue.
Agree NCommand!

It isn't a question of talent but the utilization of that talent.

A lot of us, justifiably, criticize Roman. BUT the buck stops w/JH.

Think about how many close games we won w/FG or last minute heroics when we should have been way ahead.

If we could open up a passing offense to compliment a successful run game we'd bury Seattle.

This off season e MUST fix the suck-butt Red Zone epic failures.

Roman isn't always the problem when the guy is on he is on but when he is off he is off. I think his most glaring mistakes are the bigger stages and tend to get amplified. The 2013 night game at Seattle he went for big plays on first drive to try to take crowd out of game and it backfired . We got beat up pretty bad by the Pats got in hole early and game just got away from us. The Super Bowl he seemed unprepared in first half Fangio as well. The second half was much better until last plays on offense. We were running so well and went to the pass? Big mistake but CK had a chance to make a play and mistimed his throw. That's execution not play calling the didn't help either. In 2013 NFCC going for it all that soon was a big risk but I guess he figured our team struggles the further we get to the goal line that 2nd down was a good time to take shot. Kap has to put that ball where only Crabs has a chance or it goes out of bounds. Pass was low Sherman made a great play game over.

I think another year and more work on both Roman and Kap could all we need to get over hump.
Everybody getting better while we getting worse.

Great job front office.

just like we did last year in winning two playoff games and darn near beating seattle , hopefully we get over that hump(which to me is just a small little bump) despite roman. we win so that is the bottom line but it is distressing that we always have to make a win more difficult than it should be and we always have to hold on at the end due to the fact we relax on both sides of the ball

Great job front office.

and people think i hit ten on the over reaction meter.we got better in the safety area and in my opinion we can not get much worse with our corners than what we were at multiple times last year in the worst possible moments. if the season began tomorrow with the current group of cornerbacks we have, then yes i would be more than concerned but it does not and i am not
