I think he did that 3 times versus CLE, but one of those times was on a busted screen so he had inelligible WRs downfield. So on that one "sack", running out of bounds was the right thing to do. The other 2 was dumb though.

I say we keep this QB battle going on for the next 5-6 years. Tomsula should be a better coach by then too. Maybe Baalke will hit on a couple pro bowlers by then as well.

What has Gabbert shown that he can do? I would say that Kaepernick over his career has shown he can do more than what Gabbert has shown.

i think you give gabbert next year or 2 as a bridge we need to fix OL and give our next 1b a huge chance to succeed

When should the team bring in the guy who will be on the other side of the bridge?

I would love for Gabbert to work out but I would hate to start from scratch looking for a new QB in two years. We should know more about Gabbert after the next three games.

Gabbert has the potential to be a top 5 QB. Since he's already steps ahead of Kap, then why not keep building around him?

it depends personally if i was GM

if davis comes back i would draft a qb this year i think staley and AD are one of the best OT duos in nfl get a QB in round 1 . I would have them compete but lean towards gabbert to start. I think goff and lynch are best bet in top 10 i would lean towards goff because he has a shorter learning curve start him mid season or next year - lets face it i dont think were a SB contender or even a playoff team next year so no need to rush

if AD doesnt come back i would draft OT in round 1 to fix the OL and draft a qb in 2017

Solid arm, quick release, good fundamentals, fast, good pocket awareness, showed ability to go through his progressions and doesn't stare down receivers.

What have you seen that he doesn't have that potential?

So again I will advocate to change the name of this thread. We could be talking about David Blaine. He also can disappear within a week.

That's what I've seen so far. He certainly had enough potential to be drafted in the top 10 before he got all screwed up in Jacksonville. That happens to young QB's all the time. Especially if they plan on letting Kaepernick go, they need to retain Gabbert. I wouldn't mind seeing them draft a QB to push him either.

His entire body of work in the NFL.
He isn't moving the ball, he is getting sacked and the 49ers still aren't scoring much on offense. He was terrible on Sunday and while I loved two of the plays the week before he wasn't all that good in that game either.
I am not saying he cannot be good but I haven't seen enough to tell me he will be good.

I think it would be great to have someone to push him, if they both work out that would be fantastic.

I wouldn't compare the two. Locker has already retired - he clearly couldn't take it. Gabbert is still grinding and working even though he's taking a beating. I admire and respect that.
