Personally, I think Carolina's defense is better than Seattle's. Their players play fast, meaning, they diagnose quickly and get to the play.

Fully agree with this!

Great job jonnydel, I always look forward to your analysis. Keep it comin!

Here's another example of how VD opens up other receivers. This is the biggest play of the game, Boldin's 45 yard catch. This is set up by VD.

Here Carolina has just brought in their backup safety. Before the snap they walk him down to the LOS showing a single high safety look. We're going to run AB on a clearing route up and VD on a out route.

Just before the snap Carolina rotates the high safety over and drops the Strong safety back, retreating into a 2 deep safety look(this was literally after Goodwin lifted his head to snap the ball). They run a cover 2 zone defense here.

On the broadcast Aikman said this was a "sluggo" pump fake. I disagree, you'll see from the angle of his body that he pumped faked to Davis, plus, Boldin never really did a "slant and go" type of move. But you see how the clearing route opens up Vernon.

Kap's pump fake to Vernon causes the safety to bite HARD towards Vernon, vacating his deep half zone.

You see how hard the safety bites, the corner is sitting in his zone which allows Boldin to get behind him. Note the zone coverage on the bottom of the screen, that's what it's supposed to look like at the top, but, because Carolina wanted to pay so much attention to Vernon, the safety jumps.

You see the corner, after the play, looking back at the safety going, "wtf bro".....

Good stuff. How has Patton been on his routes? We saw the one big play for a first down to him, any other potential plays on his side?
haha I remember the CB was pretty pissed he had no safety help
Jonnydel, check this youtube video if you wanna make gifs using a mac:

The 49ers have started their winning streak since Harbaugh wore cleats and Jonnydel and TH1408 have given us game analysis and previews. Keep it up!

How has Perish Cox performed in the absence of Rogers? Should 49ers keep him in that role?

Excellent and great call on TJE.

Here's how Roman setup Gore's big run in the 4th quarter:

This is in the 3rd quarter, 3rd and 1. We bring in our "jumbo" package with Snyder as the 2nd TE, we motion Boldin across the formation.

As Boldin runs by, he taps Davis who then shifts across the formation as well.

We run a QB sneak for a first down.

In the 4th quarter it's another 3rd and 1. We again come out in a "jumbo" package with Snyder as the 2nd TE, and again we motion Boldin across the formation.

As he runs by he again taps VD who then motions across the formation(look familiar?)

Instead of a QB sneak, we run "97 power". We're going to collapse the line down at the "7" hole and pull Boone around with Dixon getting a kickout block on the LOS. Because we had run the QB sneak earlier out if this exact same situation, formation and shift, Carolina anticipates QB sneak and the DT's collapse in. This gives our guys(mainly Staley and Goodwin) great angles for their blocks.

You see how aggressively Carolina looks for the sneak as the LB's and DL all crash the middle.

The crash allows Iupati to get off his block and get to the 2nd level on Keuchly, Dixon and Boone go for their blocks.

You see how all the D-lineman are out of the play in a big ball in the middle. Iupati holds his block on Keuchly and Boone and Dixon get good kickout blocks. This opens up a big lane for Frank.

Frank ends up 1-1 with the backup safety and the rest you know. This was awesome to see Roman set this play up by running complimenting plays out of the same formation, shifts, motions personnel packages and situations. Great call and execution.
brilliant!

Iupati made Keuchly look like a school girl

this play is there for the taking often, teams think kap goes to that inside wr all the time, gb thought that last week and tramon picked off the ball, this time kap pump faked it and went deep
Nice shots...great work and great analysis
My expert analysis...

1) Cams a p***y.

2) Steve "littleman" Smith's mouth is even bigger than his game.

3) Poseidon forgot to open the Kraken's gate.

4) Panthers came out barking like junkyard dogs, and left whimpering like beaten curs.
