Harbaugh on WR Jon Baldwin possibly joining the offense: "That's possible. He's doing a good job."
I hope he means there's a real chance. Cause I mean, at the same time I don't think Harbaugh would say, "Gee, not really sure about that. He's still learning." or something like that. I badly want to see Baldwin play. The guy has a lot of talent and can be very useful if we give him a chance to be utilized.

Nobody's going to trade a sure-fire #1 (or even a good #2) receiver this early in the season unless he comes with more baggage than the airport pickup carousel. Also, it would take anybody we gave that #1 or #2 pick for ('cause that's what smart teams will charge us) at least several weeks to get up to speed on our tome-like playbook.Originally posted by artiga1:Originally posted by 49ersking:The 49ers have only one WR = Boldin
He is/will be constantly double teamed going forward. This is except when playing Seattle, when one CB is more than enough.
The 49ers do not have any other good WRs, meaning, any player who can play the position with efficiency. Lining up as a WR and just running around, and constantly being covered by an avg DB (= Colts DBs) does not make one a good WR.
Williams, Baldwin, Moore, Patton are just people lining up at WR at this point.
This team deserves better.
Agreed.
They should make a mid season blockbuster trade...ala the Colts to get Richardson( He didnt play all that well because they just got him but his acquisition energized that team)
Even though Crabs and MM, will be back later in the year, we need that spark on offense NOW. Give up an 2nd or 3rd and get a guy that forces defenses to cover him so Boldin isnt double covered every play
You can get away with throwing in a RB on limited practice time/playbook study (just commit to running and don't audible into a pass-protect situation even if the linebackers sneak up), but with receivers, you'd be risking interceptions off miscommunications or worse, the health of the receiver if he isn't 100% certain what he's doing. Lack of assignment understanding can even stunt the run game, but I'm droning
The point is, the coaches know all this, and with the timeline for Manningham and Crabtree looking like late November - early December (with luck), and our schedule getting rather forgiving after Houston, the staff will like try to put a band-aid on the offense until reinforcements arrive.
Agreed bout the trade, we already made a wr trade this yr! I know so far not a fan fav. We traded for baldwin, he is a big reciever who can beat some of the press coverage! He has the speed, some say has hands of stone, but the stats dont show this what so ever. He has had some success as well in kc! Not probowl numbers but playing wit bowe and not having a qb to throw to you does hurt! I say we give this man a shot! Slide williams and patton at slot and see what works! Take some heat off of boldin, get vernon back and let the d's pick their poison once again!
Our passing offense is primarily Boldin, VD and Crabtree at full strength. Two out of those three are out, so we are running at 33%. Meanwhile, sure, why not give the others a chance...what is there to lose anyways. Better to have tried and lost than not try at all.
There is something obviously/seriously wrong with the team right now...the 49ers are not supposed to lose by these large margins. The coaching has to be questioned, everything has to be questioned before it's too late to change anything.
We have a Coach of the year, Executive of the year, and an owner who has a lot of common sense. That's the only thing going for the team right now.

Originally posted by au8277:I agree wholeheartedly. Harbaugh and his staff seem really rigid about playing time being earned by later-round draft picks and/or traded players. I'm sure they don't want to 'throw things against the wall and see what sticks' but Baldwin's size/speed combination might be enough to at least coax defenses into backing off a bit and create some underneath soft spots for Boldin or McDonald.Originally posted by frankie:Originally posted by au8277:That would satisfy the fans short-term, but realistically, it might not be worth mortgaging the future.
