I would say that his roster spot is in danger if it weren't for one important aspect, and that is Kap seemed to have really good chemistry with Mario. I don't know how much that matters to the coaches but I did notice it.

I hear ya. I want him on the team because he's a talented receiver, but I don't think it's an impossibility. You're right, if he was healthy he would be #2 easily, but he's not healthy. And when a guy is not healthy he risks getting phased out if others step up in his place. If he slides to 5th or 6th on the depth chart he won't be getting snaps on offense. He has no special teams ability. I wouldn't completely rule out a scenario where the coaches choose to have a special teams contributor take up the final WR spot(s).

I agree. Kap and Mario did seem to have some nice chemistry. Also, Mario was able to play well after missing most of training camp last year. Maybe he can do it again.

I have a question.

Does anyone have an estimate of how long it would take Manningham to get in football playing shape after he is cleared to practice?

Good question, but I'm not sure there is an answer. He's a lean guy who could have kept in shape by doing exercises around his injury. Would help to know his injury history and how he has healed in the past. Aerobically--it would be difficult for him to be in shape but they could work him into the lineup slowly, subbing one or more guys at the position.

My best guess is that any decision on Manningham depends on his health.

I have a hunch that he will start the season on PUP--and miss the first six weeks, but it is only a hunch.

If that is the case, he becomes a needed insurance policy for the second half of the season.

It appears that Harbaugh and company are doing a very good job of fostering competition.

I may be wrong, but it seems that they are giving everybody competing for a starting job a fair number of reps.

Kilgore seems to getting every chance in the world to take the starting center position. Goodwin has not been practicing all that much.

i think it's the staff way of doing things..you cant over work your starting group this early

You are right about not overworking the starters, but Goodwin's apparent lack of reps does seem to noticeable; just not sure if his limited reps has much significance .

Kaepernick still staring down receivers. No wonder he gets picked at least 4 times every day.

For real...4 picks a day!!! That can not be making the coach happy!!

His weakness is that quick out. Since last preseason. The coaches didn't call a lot of those for him either. Don't give it away by turning the head too soon.
