that would be fine if you were talking about the charles of four years ago or ten years ago but you are not. two rookies and what we already have is more than enough to deal with this position without spending money we do not have to bring in some washed up old guy who can not play special teams

Originally posted by LoneWolf:good point. i do wonder though after the moss thing went south in the super bowl and the ginn thing went south last year, if the niners are done signing one trick pony type of guys and from now on, they have to be able to multi task in order to make the team??

Although it does seem to be the teams mo to sign players that have to be able to play special teams as well, Moss didnt play special teams and was just as washed up as Woodson.

No, I didn't say give him a guaranteed contract. I was insinuating the incentive-laden compete for your roster spot deal. Put him out there and if he makes the final cut good for us, if not he can sit on the couch. His know how and vet savvy to play the position, knowledge of NFL personnel and systems, etc, etc, etc just might allow him to react, diagnose and play faster than Dahl and/or a rookie. If this is not the case, I am sure we cut our losses. I agree with you that this is not the 30yo Woodson but the 36yo. I see nothing wrong with bringing him to camp to compete for a spot if they don't find what they need in the draft

Originally posted by Pillbusta:me to. i am wrong all the time but i just feel if we get a hot shot guy in round one or two and maybe a sleeper in four or five that and what we already have would take care of that hole?

True. I would however be pleased if we could find a better solution next week

I'd rather start 36 year old Woodson over Craig Dahl anyday. There is no question who the more talented, instinctive player is. The only question is durability and salary. That's it.
