we actually have a few more needs than a shutdown corner,, if you remember we also had to break the bank and sign people like ken norton jr richard dent, tim harris and others to beef up the pass rush. we also need another wide out at least, a punt returner, a kicker and some help on the defensive line, so not quite like 94 and breaking the bank for revis will not take care of our needs in my opinion.

And, again, Deion Sanders signed a one-year deal for $1.2 million. Even if you convert that to current day money, does anyone seriously think the Niners can get Revis for anything even close to that? Plus, Sanders was healthy and in the prime of his career. We don't know how healthy Revis is. Hey, if he still plays at the level he has been over his career then, like Sanders, he shuts down half the field and that would be great. But, I don't expect it to happen.

OK...this argument always drives me nuts....tho I usually hear it from Jets fans.

Having a bunch of picks doesn't mean they are worth less. They are currency.

They shouldn't throw away a good pick (or 2) on a 1 year player.

If it is going to cost a bunch then I say we pass. The thing is I think we can get him on the cheap due to that knee injury and the uncertainty of him being the Revis of old.

Yeah...6 mil is no prob...its the draft pick compensation that's the problem.

Well, that's the entire reason they are trying to trade him.

Without that clause Revis would likely not be on the block right now.

I also read in NFL.com that if he holds out, his contract is automatically extended for another three years. If that's true, it would seems like the Jets have all the leverage.

They have leverage on him for this season only . . . which is why they need to flip him for what they can get.

Well, that's all that matters right now.

If you're the Jets GM you know that Revis won't hold out because then he'll really be stuck. You also know that he wants to be paid handsomely, or be traded. Since the Jets have made it painfully obvious they're not about to pay what he's asking, they will likely end up ransoming him off to the highest bidder for picks and/or players.

In this instance, the "highest bidder" doesn't necessarily have to be a team Revis wants to play for.

So, the Jets FO is holding all the cards here.

For a LT contract; incentive. 3 years @ 9-11M a year. He makes an extra 3-5M more this year to come to SF and makes the same for the next two years.

if we get him...lock him up for 4-5yrs not a damned rental player
