True. When I watched tape, I saw plenty of opportunities underneath that Kaep bypassed for the big play down field even if the deep ball rcvr was covered. Alex always made the safe play at the detriment of missing the open guy deep, Kaep sometimes takes too much risk while overlooking the open guy underneath. Might explain some of the dip in Vernon Davis' production. We do need Kaep to accept the safe play every once in a while so that we can sustain drives when necessary. But hey, everything can't be perfect can it? Kaep is a gunslinger in it's truest form

Kicking, pass rush, defense all around, and running game all need to step up to their potential this playoffs if we want to host the trophy. They all can and have been great or good enough fairly recently but very inconsistent. Need it big.

CK does seem to be improving every week. But the Pats came back in part to the fact that the 49ers O went quiet for a while. Now that we are short at WR, pass plays to TE and RB are even more important. Being at home where it's quiet for the offense will be huge, methinks.

Under Alex, we rushed for an average of 31 more yards per game and that is with two HUGE performances vs the Jets and Bills. We are still a power team, just in a different formation (Pistol, which is very similar to the I-formation, just a different look). The difference, we now have the ABILITY and willingness to take more chances down the field, hence Kaep being 2nd in the league in 25+ yard plays since taking over week 11

Good post. 31 yards doesn't sound like much but thats what 7 or 8 carries more per game. Thats significant IMO. I'd be curious to see the TOP our offense has over the past 4 weeks. I in no way want Alex under center. Not what I was getting at and i hope you didn't interperet my post that way. A huge part of our success on offense was ball control. I know our offense wasn't sexy last season or early this season but we seemed to be better at keeping our defense off the field. Now it seems we are more of a quick strike offense or 3 and out. Maybe its just me but our defense seems to be on the field alot more recently and our offense is not helping.

People are forgetting that we were embarrassing the Patriots in their building before the coaches told the team to take a nap.
We were moving the ball on Seattle too, its just that Seattle had the home field, so crap like a blocked field goal for six, a dirty tackle for a fumble, a very lucky bounce on a fumble recovery, delay of game penalties, freezing rain, and the loudest stadium in the league can all add up to a blow out. We couldn't get our running game going in Seattle, but we were able to pass the ball and move the ball.
Again, we try and establish the run against Arizona and struggle, then we come out passing and move the ball with ease.

As long as we establish our passing game first, nobody can stop us from moving the ball. The question is not how we move the ball, its just a matter of anticipating what the defense is committed to stopping. Nine times out of ten, they are committed to stopping our run.

The Packers have given me terrible memories from the 90's. They kept us from winning 2 more.

Packers were already beaten once by Niners, now SF has home field advantage, they're well rested, better record, etc...of course GB are underdogs, just accept it, dumba$$!

Not worry about the Packs. We matched up well with them on defense. Kaep will give them problem on defense with his running and throwing. Very similar to the Pats. 30-17 Niners

Sorry, hit post by accident. Anyway, with the exception of the Rams game (that Kaep cost us imo), The offensive production has been just fine. Lets not pretend Alex list up the score board week in and week out. This team in all about the D. If we get the defense prior to Smith getting hurt we'll be fine. If not its one and done.

Still worry about the NFL needing to do a make-up call for the Packs for giving them the sh*t against Seattle. And it may come against us
