dont laugh and bash me read before you make a comment in a shortened offseason (you remember how limited our playbook was earlier this year) we are top 10 in reaching the RZ only averaging 1 less RZ trips than the league leader the saints and the packers and in the last 5 to 6 games we average one of the most RZ truips in the nfl http://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat...empts-per-game and we are 3rd to last in the nfl in RZ conversion into TDs i did some calculation and as of now we are averaging 11 points less than the league leaders packers in points assuming we score the league average (yes just the average) on Tds in the RZ that puts us is the top 5 in scoring ( just a mere 3 points behind GB) so basically what we have to do is score Tds int he red zone i know i know wht youre going to say it might sound simpler than it is i have reviewed every red zone snaps the last couple of games (thanks to our very own Whomeam) - what ive notice is that a lot of time like walker said we dont have enough ime to audible and make hot routes some stupid personnel package is on he field( a lot of time there is no crabtee or we just aren't targeting him -fade to ginn really?) and we are running far too much- over 60% which is far more than any other team (we have got to pass it more and just keep it simple basically- like no stupid wildcat formations) and the steelers game yesterday gave me more hope for improvement they are the best red zone defensive team besides us and we scored 2/3 times against them the difference was that we didnt even run that much in the RZ (from what i can remember) quite honestly i dont think we ran it more than 2-3 times in the RZ yesterday so in conclusion what im saying is that in a short off-season in a very complicated offense we are moving the ball very well getting into the RZ very often and if we just score the league average % on RZ trips we instantly become a top 5 scoring team on offense i fully believe that this issue will be solved with a full offseason i just hope it can be done by he payoffs

2/4 times I believe and on one of them a penalty gave us a 2nd chance. You can't rely on the special teams unit making blunders giving you a second drive.

I'm not saying you're wrong I'm just pointing out that the red zone problems was still there yesterday.

srsly, i was just thinking about this today. not trying to play what if games, but yeah...if we werent 2nd to last in RZ, we'd be considered elite. offense is quietly coming together. i think JH and staff are really holding back for the playoffs.

I sure hope we see a bunch of screens and slants in the playoffs. Seems like they are open every game all game long.

They can be much better than what we have seen. The only place we have severe struggles is the Redzone. We have the talent down there. It's just being creative and finding more time in the system for continuity and chemistry.

Correct our offense is borderline Elite. We just need a QB to make it elite. Wow watching Steve Young through to Jerry Rice last night before the game gave me chills down my spine. I was in full reminisce mode. 49er fans from the 80's are not used to having a "game managing" type QB. We have the backs and the WR's just not the QB. If our defense does not play lights out like last night, then it can't cover for the sputtering offense.

joe montana was a game managing type qb

he was asked to do practically the same thing alex is asked to do now

throw it 26-28 times a game not urn it over and it was mainly a run first offense

i posted this a long time ago but when montana was a niner there wasnt one time we attempted more psses than rushes

same thing went on at stanford with luck he doesnt have much 300 yard games and they run a hell lot more than they pass

thats just the WCO

and as i said our offense isnt sputtering the red zone woes are the effect of the lockout last 2 years i think we were 8th in red zone % to TD with the same personnel there is no reason to believe that cant change or even improve with this coaching staff

Love, love, love the drive late in the game that led to a td to Vernon. That has to be the best drive we've had all season.

I don't think anyone could or should disagree with this. THe problem has simply been execution at some level or another all year. This is absolutely logical. If we can score 6 more often we'll be contenders. It is a small thing but small things have been missing at times this season. Hopefully we will work out the kinks and make a full run in the playoffs.

im looking forward to the offseason to add wrs and more talent to the offense and on top of that a full offseason of ota's and tc. this offense has the potential to be very dangerous

I've been saying this for over a month now. You hit it right on the head, if we can become even marginally better this team will have an elite offense. I never did the research on how often we made it to the redzone but I knew we were fairly good at getting there. One last thing to remember, we have probably played one of the tougher schedules when it comes down to our opponents defensive strength. Think this offense is a bit more productive when playing against the Patriots or Packers defense?

^^ that's because Walsh would pass first to get the lead and then run to drain the clock. Not to be confused with our current strategy of having a run oriented attack, with short, high completion, low risk passes.
