But if you weren't there too see them play, how can you judge them? 84 and 89 teams were unreal. Their Defenses were ranked first or second if i remember right. IMO, 84's front four and the DBs were by far better than 11s. We are talking Lott, Hicks, Williamson and the great Eric wright. Like I said imagine this, Jeff Fuller was a Reserve player.Fuller could have been a SF 49ers HOFer, if it wasn't for his injury in 89 (IMO), or maybe he is, i don't know. The current 2011 D backs could not even be on that roster. Sorry, but its the truth. The only part of this team's D that is better than the 84's team is the ILB core. Bill Walsh and Joe Montana would have scored a bunch of points on this team. guaranteed! Again, its not even close.

He doesn't know what he is talking about. Not only we had four of the best DBs, we had some of the best D lines ever. Michael Carter, Jeff Stover, Fred Dean, manu Tuiasosopo, Jim Stucky and the list goes on. Jeff Fuller was a reserve, imagine that.
And this 2011 defense isn't underrated? We sure as hell wouldn't be 11-3 without them, that's for sure.
I'm not trying to take away from the '84 defense. I was born in '88, but I know the Niners' history pretty well, but that '84 Niners team had an Offense to go with the Defense. What about this '11 team? This offense is sub-par. The defense makes them look above average. They're a special group, and I think they are better than the '84 team. (To note, the special teams has helped on the defense a lot in favorable situations though. This might be a great post in itself though, '11 Defense vs. '84 Defense. I would love to see arguments from both sides.)

As of Aldon right now, Dean is much much better. If Aldon continues to improve, which I hope he does, than I'll mention him in Deans class.

Not even s**tting.
Fred Dean is better than any pass rusher on the 2011 D. Board was also a very good pass rusher. Johsnon and Tui are better than Sopoaga at NT.
Lott, Wright, Hicks and Williamson>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Rogers, Brown, Goldson and Whitmore
2011 ILBs >>>> 1984 ILBs
But, the underrated Turner is better at OLB than Brooks
1984 D was as underrated as they were great.
Have you not seen Aldon play? He has 13 sacks and is very limited. He only plays on 'passing' downs. I dare to say Aldon is better than Dean ever was. But this is only Aldon's rookie season...

Hmmm I'm remembering Chris Doleman, Bryant Young, Dana Stubblefield, Roy Barker on the D line with Lee Woodall, Ken Norton Jr., and Gary Plummer as the LBs. That front 7 was pretty impressive!

This has me worried. I never understood why we passed out 1 year contracts?
