Somebody posted that Alex has the least amount of time to throw the ball of some large percentage of QB, not sure it was the top 10 or something like that.

Is it because A.Smith holds on to the ball for too long? Has anyone done a study on how long the top 10 qbs hold on to the ball versus A.Smith?
Are the 49ers receivers too slow to get open quick enough?

I think it's a combination of these. Though not all together bad in one area, it contributed to the high sack total. There's one more thing that have not been talked about that I noticed in the Ravens game. The Ravens did a good job against our running game. It forced us to throw more to move the ball. Every time we try to go back to running we didn't have much going. The Ravens goes to the next step of there defensive plan which is to go after Smith since our ground game was grounded.

Occasionally when the running game aren't working the defense can just go after the QB for sacks.

Our reliance on the running game makes the passing downs obvious. Need balance and consistency.

I liked his play last week when he lined up outside Staley, lunged forward and fell to the ground while missing his block and then got up and ran down field and helped tackle Gore.
We have not done well against teams that rushed a ton of people (Saints in preseason, Baltimore, etc.) Some of that is recognition by the lineman and Alex and I don't think we had a good game plan against baltimore we should of had quicker passes. Also Chilo replacing Synder hurt us a lot in that game. If teams are blitzing you have to make them pay.

I think the line has played much better this year. We just had a couple of letdowns (Seattle in the first game and Baltimore both with Chilo in there.) Also Philly we get sacked a lot too.

Another thing is that our receivers have been hurt, Crabtree is just getting up to speed and Braylon has been hurt all year and if they double team Vernon that is reducing our options. Now that we have Kyle Williams and Ted Ginn are both improving. Alex can get rid of the ball faster. And we can make teams pay. You saw that in the St. Louis game. And if we can Braylon back healthy, I think that will go a long way for us.

The Baltimore game was a great learning experience, I hope they build from that experience because you know the Saints will be bringing It.

iirc They were showing the time to release on every pass last game. Smith's was mostly around 2 sec
nothing to do with alex or the WR

its the o line

but im happy witht he o line they have done good since the dallas game i believe (excluding ravens game)

as long as chilo isnt in our o line is fine

LOL. Best pic this season....
I think our main problem is our O line. Even though Alex had solid numbers thoughout the season, I always thought our weak line was masked by lots of tight ends, Frank, and Alex making good plays vs the blitz.

Which leads me my other suspected culprit- Josh Morgan. He was Alex's safety valve vs the blitz. Braylon hasn't impressed since the pre season. Kyle Williams is looking like a real gem for us, but I just don't see Alex hit him on third like Josh (hopefully with more time that can change). It was really cool watching Josh tear it up early in the year, I was pretty much a Morgan hater before this season. I miss him dearly.
