Total number of wins so far this year - 10. And that is NOT pathetic! This is the only number that matters!

This thread is stupid. Who cares how much TDs our WR's have, they're not the only players that score touchdowns.

I think that's misleading. Our passing offense is near dead last. It's like if I had a 4.0 but only took one class a year while everyone else is taking a full load. Efficiency without production is useless.

What does passing offense entail exactly? By yardage we have moved up from last to 19th, T.D's we have moved up from late 20's to 13th. YPG is slowly creeping up from last to 27. AVG attempt we are 12th. 7th in the league in percentage and rating.

Most of all Attempts per game is still the lowest in the league. Lowest attempts in the league but middle of the pack in everything else. Near dead last is only an opinion of someone that has dogged Alex for quite a while.

True that, except when the WR gets no separation. Then it doesnt matter how accurate the QB is or isnt. I especially remember the Balitimore game, when i heard over and over, and over again, that when Smith did break from a defender, or have a little time, that no one was open.

So i think this is still an issue. Im glad that Smith is using the long ball and hitting his WR's in stride and perfect bomb's. However, i dont know if it's scheme or play design, but i still have yet to find a game, where our WR's are continuously in the open field. I mean for some reason ALL of our Wr's are usually blanketed.

Now dont get me wrong, they are not always blanketed, not all the time. And in those times, maybe the pass is too high or low, the wrong route is run, or they just drop the ball. But 90 % of the time in my eyes, they just dont gain consistant separation.

It's kind of hard to see from the tv picture from the game. You would have to see the coaches film or be at the game to see if this happening or not.
Edwards has appeared in 7 games, started 4

Crabtree 11, 10

Williams 10, 0

Morgan 5, 5

Ginn 12, 3

Our passing game has been up and down this season, and needs to get better, and overall we need to do better in the red zone. But its hard to have great production at WR when you never have your full complement on the field.

Good post. Only in Passing YPG are we ranked truly towards the end. Fortunately, all sorts of advanced stats have shown that YPG is the least predicative measure of success of any of the basic numbers a QB compiles. Unfortunately, it's still the default way to sort passing offense if you go to a site like ESPN, which encourages lazy analysis.

I think relying on gross yardage as a measure of success is misleading. It's like if I took 25 classes, did every assignment, and read every book, and then failed to take the exams and received an incomplete or low grade. Volume without results is useless..... the "tortoise" who takes 8 years to graduate top of his class beats the "hare" who graduates in 2 years with a 2.0 GPA.

If I may be blunt, your comment is stupid as well. If you have nothing to add to the discussion, feel free to skip the thread.

We are 10 - 2, throw to our TE's, RB's, and run the ball a lot into the endzone. But not good enough I see....

I will go off of what the people who DO watch the coaches film say and that's that Alex hasn't shown he can consistently make the tight throws.

However, I'm beginning to think this isn't a lack of ability thing more than it is a confidence thing be it in himself, WR's, or comfortableness with mastery of the play.

Will give us 2nd best team in the NFL once the Superbowl is over if we keep missing chances to get 7's over 3's.

Go look at the # of TDs Stanford's WRs had when Harbaugh was the coach(and even this year with David Shaw).
