Call it off-season fodder if you like but it sounds like the blame game to me. I don't like Jed becoming Jerry Jr either. If it wasn't for a freak injury the contracts don't look all that bad, you have to pay players its pert of football.
Uh yeah. He gave them $330m and they won six games. He should be reining it in.
Money can't buy health. With that said, I do agree it should be reigned in.
It should be able to buy guys without significant injury histories. And it's not just about the money - they gave Williams and CMC more money when they both had two years left on their deals. No reason to do that. They controlled their football lives. Locker room vibes aren't a negotiating point. If Trent wants to retire - let him. Don't give in. If CMC wants to sit and pout over a deal with two years left - let him. You can't keep caving to these guys.
Yeah I agree with this, and we need to get better at extending guys who are ascending before they become top of market guys. Its easier said than done but that and drafting better are a must if we want to stay relevant...
Why would any ascending player sign an extension when they can get top market value? It's the same reason Aiyuk waited. Every player that signed a larger contract in front of him just helped his negotiations.
Because they get top money sooner. Time value of money is very real. They de-risk their life changing contract. And they can officially settle into their city and start a life.
Will every player do this? No. But most will.
such a shame where the standard for this once great franchise went
