Why are we not using Vernon Davis?

That's my point really. Smith needs a go-to guy who is always in the clear and never drops the ball. VD is like a Maserati of TE! Gives you more zoom than many cars but if you just want to get to the store you take your Honda. Not saying we don't need VD, just saying we need a complement for first down markers.

As long as the team wins i don't care who has a big game, whether its VD, Crabs, Braylon, Gore, its a team game. If we win im satisfied, blowout or close games. nuff said

Cool... and I so agree with the bolded.

Okay, it's 11:41 in the 3rd. No question, VD has to make that grab. He puts up both arms and the ball clanks off VD's right forearm. The DB was trailing right on his back, but DB's hands were not in VD's face obstructing as the ball arrives.

Thanks oldman, I may have been overly willing to excuse him because I really don't expect him to make that kind of catch. As good as he is, he is not a natural receiver. I'm referring to the Brent Jones type of guy who, when he drops a pass, you go back to the books to see what year was his last drop. But he is a very tireless worker and will no doubt get better even with the difficult catches.

He has been blocking so much that he may be out of sorts with catching. Just a thought.

A shame, really. The way I read it over the years, VD works extra hard on the jugs machines to try and catch better. Like you correctly stated though... just doesn't have natural hands. People also overrate his blocking at times too... doesn't suck, but has a few costly block fails per game.

I'm happier having VD on the team than to not, though. Just wish he could be... even better.

Funny thing that the best offensive minds we have had lately (JH & Mike Martz) prefer to use VD more as a blocker and decoy then as an actual pass catcher.

Because he is getting the double team and Braylon has been injured for weeks and weeks and can't seem to stay healthy. And we lost Morgan. It would help if Braylon can stay healthy. If he can I expect we will see more of VD.
He also gonna stop dropping passes if he wants more to come his way.

That was a terrible drop, but did you see the stat they posted just before that? VD leads all TEs in catch % per target. We might be a bit harsh on him. Again, that drop was terrible, but he does make more great catches than he drops.

People here can be too over criticial, because there's such strong feelings about trying defend or disprove "x" player. Any time there's a slightly catchable ball that gets dropped it's Aaron Rodger's receivers can make that play every time why can't ours? They don't make that play every time either.

That deep bomb is play Vernon has to make every time though.

Now he needs to practice on over-the-shoulder catches.

Vernon needs to get back to doing what he did early. I find he tries to break down defenders too much instead of just putting his foot in the ground and going. In fact I find a lot of our receivers do that.
