This article brought up a great discussion point....if Alex continues like he has this year, by that I mean has a fairly decent year. Not spectacular. Does he get re-signed for next year and if so for how many years and at what price?

Yes we sign him. And I think he will want to come back with Harbaugh. Right now as the line starts to gel and his confidence starts to build, he is only going to get better.

One point: he will have off days. Things won't go like clockwork every game. Be nice if the zone showed him a little patience.
I think it says something that Harbaugh was a high draft pick and had a mediocre career, ala Alex Smith. I'm putting mediocrity in the fact that Alex has been in the league for years and has started a good portion in it. I think they genuinely like each other and that's good because their success is tied into one another.
Genuinely like each other, I could see them getting a beer together in the offseason.

Catching up with Smith Monday on the SiriusXM Blitz, the quarterback didn't name Singletary. But his take on the mentality for the second half spoke volumes about the difference between Harbaugh and Singletary. Smith told us, "It starts from the top down. Nobody was freaking out at the half. There were no crazy emotions. There was no hoopla. The focus was on the details. It was about stringing plays together and starting from there. There was no crazy speech. It was just football."

"no crazy emotions" Like Singletary chewing them out? HS football style? MAN I am SOOOO GLAD I can laugh about that goof now. I bet Alex HATED him.

Sing was a first time HC with the job offered to him, Never been a DC...his only experience was a position coach....loved the guy but he was already too far ahead of himself.

Give Sing a break !

English pretty much said it all. Yes, we definitely re-sign him if he plays well. Doesn't even have to play great... just well... Harbaugh loves him some Alex, and Alex loves him some 49ers. How much? Oh wow... hard to say. Alex may love us enough to play for 7 mil a year. About on par with Jay Cutler's, Matt Schaub's, + Josh Freeman's coming salaries. Sounds like a ton, but look around the league at Matt Ryan , Phillip Rivers, and Kevin Kolb making 11 or so mil per.
Now I really wish that we would have signed Smith to a 2 year deal. His value is high now (and hopefully will be all season), which would not only ensure him being here next year, but also maximize his value for trading purposes.
Did my post really get removed without any notification?

I love it too but lets not get ahead of ourselves. 3-1 is not the superbowl or playoffs yet. Lets hope we continue to get better and compete in this league.
If Alex had not had a PERFECT 2nd half and we lost ppl would be screaming and pulling their hair out. Slow down and save the whipped cream with the cherry on top if the team has a .500 season or better.
