OWINGS MILLS -- The Baltimore Ravens cut linebacker Tavares Gooden from the roster Saturday after haggling with the San Francisco 49ers in trade discussions that fizzled out.
The Ravens were seeking help along the offensive line, preferably a center, but a proposed trade fell apart.
A speedy former third-round draft pick from the University of Miami, Gooden was the highest-profile player the Ravens released Saturday as they got down to the NFL roster limit.
Gooden could have remained on the team if he had accepted a reduction of his $1.2 million salary, but ultimately he declined the offer. Gooden's tendency to get hurt was another factor in his release.

I wonder who they were wanting. Snyder? Wragge and some picks?

anyone familiar with the song "7th floor crew?"
its a rap song that the Miami football team put out a few years ago, extremely vulgar and the ncaa tried to punish the players involved but couldnt prove for certain that they were the ones singing.
anyway, "t-good" has a verse in this song http://www.justsomelyrics.com/815630/7th-Floor-Crew-7th-Floor-Crew-Lyrics
thats how i know gooden's name, otherwise he has been quiet on the field in the nfl
click on the link with caution, as i said, the lyrics are EXTREMELY vulgar

So Neither Maiocco nor Barrows has reported anything official yet? Interesting that the Ravens see him as a 3rd round bust..

This guy never became a solid contibuter to the Ravens. I would rather have signed Alex Joseph to the practice squad then pick up an often injured player.

What has Alex Joseph done, other than the last preseason game vs 3rd and 4th string NFL players (who most of them are without NFL jobs today); ever do?
Alex Joseph couldn't even beat out Kristick.
Alex Joseph could still be signed to the PS if the 49ers want him.
I don't pretend to know much about Gooden; however, he has experience against starting caliber offenses in a rotational duty. http://www.nfl.com/player/tavaresgooden/1361/profile
Alex Joseph does not even have one tackle, he registered only 1 assist last season. http://www.nfl.com/player/alexjoseph/2507942/profile
When healthy, one could presume that Gooden has more talent than Joseph.
Gooden will play spot duty and may not even suit up for most games. He provides cheap insurance in case Bowman and Kristick/Grant are not able to play.

Grant already has starting experience and Gooden was never a special player for Baltimore. Gooden might know this defense we are running but it will be waisted when he is on injured reserve later on the year.

1. We didnt give anything up for him, and I'm sure whoever we cut to make room for him isn't exactly a hot commodity in the NFL.
2. He is young
3. Baltimore has a good drafting track record
4. Baltimore strongest area is defense, and in general their LB are the strength of the defense. He could be talented for many teams just not the Ravens.
