i think its hilarious that everyone thinks Kevin Kolb is worth anything. what has he done?? he had two 400 yd+ passing games in his first 2 starts, and has done literally NOTHING since but get hurt and suck. yet teams are falling all over themselves to give up a load for him.
when the Panthers foiled the Cards chances at setting back their franchise 5 years by taking Cam Newton 1st, i was disappointed, but the Cards retardation just couldnt be restrained, and they found a way to give up a great young CB and a 2nd round pick for a guy who hasnt done anything in the NFL.
now that the new CBA is in effect, early draft picks are gold again. its superstar potential players for dirt cheap. before, when the players were costing so much, draft picks were easily traded to save money. now a 2nd rounder and a CB like DRC is a truckload of a return for a nobody like Kolb.

Kolb is unproven thats true but he's also been coached very well by Andy Reid so he already has been groomed I'm sure he can adapt to the new system in Arizona. It may have been 2 games with 400 yards but at the same time Smith's never done that, I'm not saying that he's worth what the Cards gave up but I am saying he's unproven Kolb may be the real deal no one knows aside from maybe Andy Reid. If he is what Reid says he is then Kolb will absolutely do better than Smith because he learned the QB position from a good QB coach for 3 years. We've seen Smith and what he can do, he doesn't fit the WCO because he comes from a spread and it takes time to transition. I'm not gonna judge a book by it's cover because I don't know how good Kolb is, he did beat us last year though he still hasn't shown what he's all about in a season.

He could possibly be but based on what? He hasn't played any long period of time.

Really? The response is OVERWHELMINGLY in Alex's favor? Really? This is f***ing insane. There is exactly 0 chance Alex with have better stats than Kolb. I laugh at this idea.

This is actually not a bad question. It really will depend on which QB picks up their respective systems faster. So far, Alex has the edge on his "system" BUT...he's slower to get things rolling when live bullets fly. If Alex gets it going early on in the season then he could edge out Kolb....if not then Kolb because either a) he's better b) he's still starting c) Fitzgerald.
Either way you look at it...both guys HAVE TO start fast. I know with us at least...we simply can't afford a s**tty start like last year. If we are anything less than 3-3 by the bye....then we need to yank Alex.
we also have to remember Andy Reid coached Kolb for 3 seasons so he likely can adapt pretty quickly and faster than Smith because of the pro system he's played in. And lets be honest unless Smith is hurt he's gonna be starting every game.
I think Smith certainly has the ability to start every game but you're right let's be honest...Smith's track record isn't exactly outstanding...legit reasons or not.
If we're worse than 3-3 at the bye...I seriously doubt Smith starts another game.
0-6 = Jed sells the team & Alex Smith's house is mobbed by pitchfork toting fans
1-5 = Benched for sure
2-4 = "We Want Kap!"
3-3 = Cont to start but wont be back w/o dramatic reversal.
4-2 = I'll believe again
5-1 = Possible extension
6-0 = Fly15 and Susweel will by a Smith jersey
Coulda order one what 3 yrs ago for 20 bucks lol! Id get one! Gooo alex! This yr or bust! No pressure lol
I don't see Kaep being thrown in the fire he's way too raw to start unless Smith gets hurt he's not playing this season no matter how bad he sucks. Lol at the 6-0 option with Susweel getting a Smith jersey. Smith took every snap in 2006 but ever since he injured his shoulder in 2007 his arm strength was considerably weaker and our O-Line despite the Goodwin signing is still maturing so Smith could run for his life this season as well as be overwhelmed especially if Chilo starts.
And frankie every year has been the same, Smith looks spectacular in training camp he's gonna break out and its this year or bust, after 7 years its pretty clear what the answer is. But he's in more pressure now than ever before because he's the only player in the offense with experience in WCO, which he struggled with, so there's more pressure than he's ever had also because the rest of the offense hasn't played in WCO either and they also came from the spread. He's also pressured to stay healthy because if he's hurt than Kaep will be forced to start prematurely, which could be a disaster.
I think Alex can be good but he isn't WCO material he'd fit well in SD or teams like Indianapolis that still use a shotgun offense.
Agreed the pressure is on for alex! The only yr he was in west coast offense was his rookie yr! We lost newberry, heitman slid over and we had league high in injuries packers was 2nd if i remember right! Talent we had at wr was non existent! Basically the team as is now tho not much experience is light yrs ahead of alexs rook yr! I could see smith do well wit norv! He made strides from the rook yr! Wasnt hard! But i can see em doing well as a west coast qb wit a in the mix offensive qb coach in haurbaugh! Just sayin could happen. As history hasnt been to great for em or the niners but, now nolan and mike are gone with their stubborn and lack of offensive game plans!
Just sayin! My glass is half full!

One of these years, Alex is going to win comeback player of the year.
He's got it in him, and I think this year could be set up right for Smith to finally have a really solid season.
Kolb?...meh.

The odds are in favor for Smith. He has Edwards, crabtree, Davis, gore, walker, ginn.
Kolb has Fitzgerald. Heap? He's past his prime. I can't think of any other good targets around him.
God, Smith has an assload of talent around him. If he can't do it this year he'll never do it.
I say with harbaugh as his guardian angel I say he has the better year
