another Alex Smith thread.........yay how original.......
This is actually not a bad question. It really will depend on which QB picks up their respective systems faster. So far, Alex has the edge on his "system" BUT...he's slower to get things rolling when live bullets fly. If Alex gets it going early on in the season then he could edge out Kolb....if not then Kolb because either a) he's better b) he's still starting c) Fitzgerald.

Either way you look at it...both guys HAVE TO start fast. I know with us at least...we simply can't afford a s**tty start like last year. If we are anything less than 3-3 by the bye....then we need to yank Alex.

Thanks, this is exactly the reason. Not meant to be another Alex Smith thread

"To have him demonstrate, to have him jump out there and still get in and be competitive, that's fun," Smith said. "It's great to see it. I know for all of us, it's great to have a visual explanation sometimes instead of getting it told to you. To get to see it happen, even from an old guy, it's good."

we also have to remember Andy Reid coached Kolb for 3 seasons so he likely can adapt pretty quickly and faster than Smith because of the pro system he's played in. And lets be honest unless Smith is hurt he's gonna be starting every game.
Alex wit the west coast baaaaby! Lol crabs when back, b edwards! V davis walker, morgan and lets not forget the one and only frank gore! Who knows another wr may surprise as well! Not being biased! Kolb has fitz(big plus) breasten, b wells! Not much else! Kolb had hard enough time gettin jackson the ball in philly! Should do a lil better wit fitz jump ability! But time will tell!

On paper our team looks great offensively! Alex aint the only qb learning a new system kolb is also!

I think Smith certainly has the ability to start every game but you're right let's be honest...Smith's track record isn't exactly outstanding...legit reasons or not.

If we're worse than 3-3 at the bye...I seriously doubt Smith starts another game.

0-6 = Jed sells the team & Alex Smith's house is mobbed by pitchfork toting fans
1-5 = Benched for sure
2-4 = "We Want Kap!"
3-3 = Cont to start but wont be back w/o dramatic reversal.
4-2 = I'll believe again
5-1 = Possible extension
6-0 = Fly15 and Susweel will by a Smith jersey
LOL at 91% after 32 votes.

I don't see Kaep being thrown in the fire he's way too raw to start unless Smith gets hurt he's not playing this season no matter how bad he sucks. Lol at the 6-0 option with Susweel getting a Smith jersey. Smith took every snap in 2006 but ever since he injured his shoulder in 2007 his arm strength was considerably weaker and our O-Line despite the Goodwin signing is still maturing so Smith could run for his life this season as well as be overwhelmed especially if Chilo starts.

And frankie every year has been the same, Smith looks spectacular in training camp he's gonna break out and its this year or bust, after 7 years its pretty clear what the answer is. But he's in more pressure now than ever before because he's the only player in the offense with experience in WCO, which he struggled with, so there's more pressure than he's ever had also because the rest of the offense hasn't played in WCO either and they also came from the spread. He's also pressured to stay healthy because if he's hurt than Kaep will be forced to start prematurely, which could be a disaster.

I think Alex can be good but he isn't WCO material he'd fit well in SD or teams like Indianapolis that still use a shotgun offense.
