Pretty thin at CB... wish we had Adams right now. Also, don't be surprised if Reggie comes in as a CB and Madieu/Goldson play the safety spots. We did that in the past... we might have to do it again with only 3 healthy corners if Spencer can't go.

What's up with Spencer?

NT/FB Isaac Sopoaga (infection) and CB Shawntae Spencer (toe) did not practice. Their status for Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is uncertain.

49ERS(Wednesday practice report)Out for Sunday's game: CB Tramaine Brock (hand), WR Braylon Edwards (knee), FB Moran Norris (fibula)Did not participate: NT Isaac Sopoaga (infection), CB Shawntae Spencer (toe)Limited participation: RB Frank Gore (ankle), WR Michael Crabtree (foot), G Mike Iupati (neck), G Adam Snyder (hamstring

Edit: changed my post to could be... if it is turf toe that can keep players out for weeks. can't plant or cut, pretty much hurts the whole foot

The few weeks he has been in there he played really well. Maybe he goes but if it is something like turf toe that can affect the ability to cut or plant and probably messes with the whole foot. Maybe it isn't that though... hopefully something just minor

Brock broke his hand... I thought I didn't see him out there much if at all against Philly.

Just hoping we have Spencer and Whitner healthy and get back Soap, Brock and Edwards after the bye in time for Cleveland. Would be nice to have those guys for the final stretch with 5 more division games left.

My penis is starting to tingle the game is getting slow close.
curious to find out how the coaches approach tampa. go niners!!!
Posted this on the Dobbs thread but this is how I think it will go down with Soap being out....

I'm assuming with Sopoaga out that means RJF is NT and Ian Williams gives him breathers. Then since RJF can't give McDonald the occasional breather since he will be at NT, Dobbs will be backing up McDonald. Justin I don't think ever comes off the field. Still, it's not like last year how Soap and McDonald went in and out constantly. We will keep McDoanld and Justin on the field most of the game so Dobbs won't get too many plays.

Just my guess....

Not having Soap and RJF to spell each other at the NT spot could have negative consequences late in the game as Blount and their O-line pound away at a tiring D-line.

RJF is still available. Tukuafu is the one who went on injured reserve. But I agree this will hurt. Soap was part of the offense the last couple of games as well.

Well, that's my point. RJF has to take more snaps by himself, instead of Soap and him rotating out and staying as fresh as possible. They can shift linemen around, but bottom line - less frontline talent in the whole rotation.

Go, Niners, go!

Not too worried about Soap's absence. RayMac and JSmith can handle it. Either way, it all comes down to pass coverage. If were solid in that area, were good to go

what about Brock?

He has a hand injury and is out. I think Spencer will play on Sunday.
I think, if I'm reading this right is that there's a 80% chance at making the playoffs with a win this weekend?

we win this game

20-9

they are not a very good red zone offense

and were one of the best red zone defenses

if we stop benn from making any bug time plays i dont think they score a TD
I'd like to see Culliver get some more snaps if Spencer is far less than 100%. Culliver has the size to get in the faces of the slower receivers and disrupt routes, and more importantly, the speed to recover if they slip away. Brown was looking like an effective press CB in prior weeks as well. Did a good job of jamming up that Bengals WR (Simpson, was it?).
