Unhh, i don't know lots about many things, but staph infections are right up my alley. Simple staph infection can be just that , simple. Rx with antibiotics and back to work next day. An abrasion, like a rug burn that gets infected, where there is a large surface area may be a lot more difficult.. but still should be easy to Rx. The real problem is a staph bone infection, but i can't imagine any reason Soap would have that. Because of the nature of this being a contact sport, it is relatively easy to get a staph infection and then in a tackle, pass it on to someone else, and pretty soon everyone has it. This is usually the reason the guy with the staph is kept out of practice. The only other thing i can think of would be one of the rare flesh eating infections, which altho they can be staph, almost always are another type of bacteria. If soap has an active staph infection and let it get out of control he could have gotten a sepsis, but that is a blood borne infection and I didn't hear he was in the hospital. Obviously I don't know what happened, but the most likely is a staph infection that occurred in an open wound, or abrasion, and it needs treatment, soaks, antibiotics, and....staying away from other players until healed. There was a case I read about last yr or maybe yr before, where a number of guys on one team had staph (could have been the Texans) and they had to have a whole bunch of their guys not play.
A simple staph infection would be my guess and if so, I would hope to see Soap back on the field in 1-2 weeks, or earlier if they got it diagnosed and treated early. The one thing we wouldn't want would be for one of the other situations, where soap could be out for a very long time. Staph infections in active players I believe keeps them from playing , not so much because they are sick but because they don't want anyone else on the team to catch it...I also think i remember there being a league rule that open staph infections prevent the guy from playing, until healed.
Thanks for the info. As for the team I think it was the Browns....

Other Browns players who have contracted staph infections over the last four years are center LeCharles Bentley, tight end Kellen Winslow, receiver Braylon Edwards, and former Browns safety Brian Russell, linebacker Ben Taylor and Joe Jurevicius.
