Just read a quick note on the Jonathan Jospeh deal w/ Houston. He mentioned that the Bengals made a "competitive" offer but going to Houston was a no brainer . Namdi's contract turns out to be a MAX deal of $12 million a year ...Max . Why is this important , well these players choose these teams because they feel like they can WIN with the new organization after coming from Org.s that just haven't won period. As much as I hate to say this the Niners , My 5 time super bowl Niners have lost their shine we are considered a losing franchise and after 10yrs without a playoff apperance it is well deserved , like it or not. However there is hope, once again the Walsh/Harbaugh similarities strike again. Whe Bill arrived in 1979 the Niners were the dog of the league , of course their was no free agency so Bill , Eddie D and John McVay and Carmen Policy built the organization with young talent that they could mold into winners . Listen to any of the players from that era and they will tell you Walsh would say this is going to happen in a game and it would and slowly they began to believe. Harbaugh has way more talent on this roster than Bill did when he got started but he needs to restore confidence. I believe he can!!!! I love my niners and as you can see by my user name I go WAY back with this team, get on board now boys so you can say I was a believer when this thing got turned around , trust me it feels my sweeter than saying I been on board w/ the Jets since 2010 ! Ha ha. I am a realist , and this franchise has alot to fix but I do believe a Coach with the right players can change a teams Destiny !!! Enjoy boys there are brighter days ahead I Guarantee it !

CAN'T WAIT!
I'm feeling it too... we're gonna be very, very interesting going into 2012.
As a Niner fan who grew up in the 70's and then got to live the glory days of the 16 year playoff run, I hope you are right. The Niners have some glaring holes that they can fill with the free agents available, if they don't wait too long. All we as fans are looking for is some effort from the front office that they are actually trying.

Ann Killion wrote a great article this morning on CSN Bay Area about what appears to be happening, and it isn't pretty. The Niners are losing players with no apparent effort to fill the holes that creates. New regime or not, they are starting to dig themselves a PR hole that does not bode well for the future.
Debartalo paid players premium back when there was no salary cap. The Yorks are cheap and are terrile at running a football franchise. With an inept management, I don't see the correlation other than they still play in the same dilapidated stadium for the next 5 years.

What player would want to come here?
Lott you said it , priemier players won't come here BUT that is why having a coach who can take young talent and mold them into his image and philosophy is important. You can'y teach an old dog new tricks as they say , so let Takeo go look for a playoff team, let Navvaro Bowman step up. Eddie spent the big bucks once SF had won to keep the mojo moving forward. We didn't sign anyone of note back in 79, 80, 81 we drafted ! Now when we saw an opening we traded for players like Fred Dean . I think that is what Harbaugh can do , he can force management to upgrade the product just because ownership knows if you put out a better product more $$$$$ can be made, it's simple economics. Look at the Patriots Tom Brady and Bill B. built that team from the ground up and now they are aggressive because once you taste sucess you don't want to let it go ! ( kraft is a good owner )

I'm actually coming around to Harbaugh's plan. We went the whole season without any contact between players and coaches. Who the hell actually thinks we'll be able to implement our new gameplans/playbooks this quickly before the season starts and expect to win games? I think they already realized its a failed season, and hopefully we'll end up with Luck or a shutdown cornerback through the draft next season, and spend then...Other than Asomugha, Joseph, and Warren, this free agency seems pretty weak with elite talent. Everyone else seems to be nothing more than added depth.

Its sad that our standards fell so low, hoping for a guy who's 34 and has been in jail for the past 2 years.. As well as a "number one cornerback" who fell off after one good season in san diego. Save money, f**k b***hes

I love the optimism and hope your right, but look who was drafting for the 9ers back then. Although you can't grade a draft before the players hit camp, I am disappointed to see the 9ers draft so many players that are changing positions. I have no little confidence in Baalke and think he designs his drafts around his coaches wants, not the team needs or BAP.
seems like everytime we get a new coach a lot of people say it feels like 79. I just want to start winning and I want to start winning now!

We all want to win now, but I think the lockout ruined everything

I agree. I do think that they will still obviously try to compete for the division, but Harbaugh sees the bigger picture is in the upcoming years. Hopefully, things will start looking better. At the very least, I think Harbaugh will turn the team into a fundamentally sound team.
what I think management is thinking, is that this season is to evaluate where we are in personal and talent.

I feel like we are a secondary away from winning and going to the playoffs.

Maybe Harbaugh is what all we think he is and we overachieve with this team and really make that jump to the playoffs, but for the first time in some years I feel the other teams in the NFC west got better than us and at this point I don't feel we are the best team in the division!..

even saying that I trust management and hope we at least get carr or trade for asante so we can upgrade the cb position.
This team is not even competitive right now with their personnel.
The Niners hit a once in a lifetime combination of Walsh and Montana and a perfect front office. Unless the Niners tank and get Luck next season, and overhaul their front office with people who know what they are doing, we are not going to see a repeat of the dynasty.

Jed is no Eddie and Trent is no Carmen.

It felt like 1979 back in 2005 when Nolan was hired. Then it felt like 1979 again in 2008 when Singeltary was hired. And here we go again. I don't see any Eddie Debartolo, Jim McVay, or Bill Walsh running this franchise right now. It's just a front office that has had mediocre drafts and has been completely unprepared for free agency.
