What were the new coaches and gm doing during the lockout? | Page 2

You guys remember they were looking at film of our current players, college players and FREE AGENTS from around the league....well there better be some talks or all of that studying of free agents from other teams is a load of bs if we are not even going to compete for them. I understand a team does not want to overpay but at this point when you lose some players you have some more room to sigh and overpay for another player. They better be getting some upgrades because we juse cant sit back and watch our players get jacked from us. I understand with spikes lawson franklin and goldson b/c they are not that hard to replace, on D our pass rush will improve with smith and macdonald over franklin and lawson. Pass coverage may or may not suffer if we lose goldson and our ex center wasnt that good so we may be ok. However who do you think our coaches and gm were looking at free agent wise during the offseason like THEY SAID they were doing?

Really?? how is nnamdi not sensible....he is worth a lot more than two reasonable players. Clements wasnt worth the money but was a solid cb and helped our secondary contain the best wrs we went up against. One year he handled s smith fitz ochocinco buress almost everyone and a few other times fitz as well. Justin smith was a no brainer and that worked out well

So the last 2 big fa spendings worked out well and great for clements and smith.

$15 million a year for a 30 year old CB? id rather get Joseph from the Bengals who is younger and cheaper

This. One player in the defensive backfield is not going to propel us to the playoffs.

Considering that there are no serious contenders in our division, It may be a possibility. I mean, the 94 9ers sign Deion, win a ring. We are a win or two away from snatching the NFC West crown and with better pass coverage, I think we could squeeze out more than just a couple wins. SIGN NNAMDI! PLAYOFFS OR BUST!

I won't panic but I hear the OP's concern. This year with no off season to get rookies up to speed and with a new staff and new offense we need some veterans to sign.

Most vets won't understand Harbaugh's offense any more quickly than most rookies. And they certainly won't play cohesively enough as a squad to win most games.

What if they're familiar with a version of the WCO? I'm not too worried about the defense. It's easier to learn
