Chilo is starting at RG?
Snyder still playing at Center even after the Goodwin acquisition.

These are some big question marks that have received very little light with everything that was going on with FA, WRs, and the D in general.

Iupati and Staley are less of a concern...even if they're getting eaten alive by Aldon and Justin.... I think it is more of a testiment of the talent we now have for an effective pass rush.

I hope Snyder is not starting center into the season. I hate having someone lead the line that's never been a center before. The job should go to an already established player in Goodwin.

I am pretty sure that we didn't pick Goodwin up to back up Snyder.

I'd be very surprised if Goodwin wasn't the starting center by the 3rd preseason game. Snyder had all offseason (2 Camp Alexes and player workouts) as the center, but once Goodwin gets up to speed, he'll be the guy. Snyder is still very important as the go-to backup for all three interior lineman positions. I'm sure at some point during the season, he will be called upon.

The 49ers believe that the West Coast offense is a better fit for Smith's abilities. The system will allow him to use his athleticism outside the pocket and get rid of the ball quicker. According to one staff member, the 49ers attempted just 17 passes off three-step drops last season, and 37 percent of their pass attempts were off seven-step drops. With a young offensive line and fairly green wideout corps, that made a tough situation even more difficult for Smith.

It's awesome that the coaching staff analyzed this but it's incredibly frustrating to know that our players were simply NOT put in a position to succeed last year. What a difference coaching makes.

I really cant wait to see this offense. I havent been this excited since Nolan brought in Martz....I wonder how the offense would have been in Singletary wouldnt have fired him before year 2.

As for the 3 step drops, I think we all forget that Alex Smith was terrible at the shorter drops and was much more effective at the 5 step drops so he has more time to scan the field. He hasn't shown to be very good at the quick "blind" throws which a 3 step drop consists of. Unless Harbaugh teaches him a trick to making it successful or unless Alex begins to trust the holes in the defense more, then I don't see Alex being successful in the quick short "blind" throws. Even Martz was trying to get Alex to trust the spot of the throw rather than requiring to see it all open prior to throwing.

Martz is notorious for running deep routes with his receivers, and 5/7 step drops for the QB. Alex has never played in a WCO-type offense.

He has but even in other offenses, he has struggled a lot on the "quick hit" throws (3 step or less of a drop). Even in the success he had in the Raye-Gun or even late last year, the quick throws were his worst. They were either off target, deflected or sailed high for the most part.

This is one aspect of his game that has shown to be VERY weak because he just doesn't trust throwing the ball before seeing a receiver open or he just can't get that quick step and release out.

It's funny his redzone numbers beg to differ. In the redzone it's usually a quick throw. This tells me that he can make those throws and coaching/playcalling when not in the redzone wasn't utilizing our players strengths. Look at the percentages someone posted, Alex was making 5/7 step draws at a very high percentage. This forced our Oline to try to hold blocks longer, this also tells me that they were looking for more deep plays and not quick throws. The WRs couldn't get open, our Oline couldn't block so Smith was forced to dump the ball off or throw it away due to pressure.

That many 7 step drops with rookies at LG and RT, a RG who cant pass block, new center, and a LT replacement after Staley was injured...

Well it's the reason we were all so excited about the Goodwin signing, wasn't it? A replacement for Baas and we keep Rachal off the field to help a young RT. Snyder did quite well at RG last season, imo.

But what makes sence and what we're seeing are two different things... Maybe Goodwin doesn't know the line assignments well enough to play center for our team yet?

I dunno.

That is what is going on, he has been getting 1 on 1 time with Solari to get caught up, but there are a lot of line calls to learn, he is our starting center, make no mistake.
We are going to hear we want snyder chants this year, when rachal stinks it up.

Exactly, which is why Carlos Rogers was taking 2nd-team reps, and Braylon with all 1st and 2nd teams during drills last week. Gotta get these guys up to speed for starting in PS without overwhelming them, or setting them up for failure/injury.

So, no athlete will ever put his hands on his hips unless they are out of shape? Is that kinda what I'm reading here?

This is new levels of insanity even for the zone.

ALL athletes put their hands on their hips. ALL athletes get tired. What makes them in shape is not that they don't get tired, its how long it takes to get tired, that they are able to continue even when they ARE tired and they bounce back quickly.

Looking at a photo of a guy with his hands on his hips and concluding that he is out of shape is something that could only happen on the internet with a bunch of couch potatoes who have no clue what they are talking about.

obviously you dont actually read posts you just scan them. look at all of the tc vids and everytime i see aldon he has his hands on his hips. lol, at the notion i looked at one picture and made some obscure claim. it was a simple observation of mine, that usually indicates a player is tired, nothing more.

he is playing harder now then ever before in his football career. everyone is bigger, stronger and faster at the pro level. couple that with the fact that he has only been able to practice for a week, and it stands to reason that he isnt in top football shape yet. he is a rookie and everything is harder for a rookie.

i dont see why you had to jump down my throat for making a observation that may or may not be correct. it was just something i took note of because it stood out to me. geezz!!!!

You said this.

TC is the most grueling things these guys have faced in their lives. Nothing prepares them for it. Of course he is tired, this is his first one. That DOES NOT mean he is out of shape.

And don't worry about his hand on his hips. He is ballin!

that is the most ridiculous arguement ive seen in my life when a person puts his hands on his hips yes hes tired but that doesnt mean s**t

i play a lot of sports basketall football etc wheneever a play is dead my hands are on my hips head or knees when play begins again i am at full strength and running

his hands on hips dont mean s**t

I do the samething when playing sports. So does every other person on the field/court. This argument is really sad.
