Guys, Im f**king around a bit, but in all seriousness how do you feel about it? Think it helps? Pros, Cons?

the pros are that it keeps players on their toes, probably keeps things interesting, adds a little tension and mystery, which maybe makes it more fun. I imagine the sudden shift makes things pretty lively.

con is that some lazy brained player might not realize the change for some reason and get hurt.

Overall I think its kind of strange but whatever, I don't think the injury risk is enough to really be concerned.

Harbaugh has stated that he likes to keep the players a bit off balance so they get use to expecting the unexpected. I can't see anything wrong with it as they are always in full pads when full contact is called.

Keeps the attention level up and limits the hitting overall. Many coaches have hitting the entire practice which would seem to be more detrimental to health. Would you rather have the return of the nutcracker?

Thats not how Harbaugh does it. When one of our Wr's are going across the middle he yells " live practice" and the guy gets ruined. Probably what happened to Crabtree.

In the middle of a play or before the play? I would need to see the practice I guess to have a feel for it. Crabtree hasn't been in a live contact practice yet this year so I doubt that could be responisble for his injury...unless hearing about it caused him to hurt himself.

Broken sarcasm detector?

That was some pretty bad sarcasm lol.

Thats what worries me. Franks not the smartest guy. He's gonna run up the middle and forget its Live and get inialated.....lol

Btw, was it me or the fullback wasn't used in that many formations besides the short yardage and goal line?

Good point. Other than goal line, and maybe a few running plays, I didn't notice the FB all that much. They did throw to Norris a few times, but I don't remember him leading too many run plays, going in motion or anything like that.
i hated the aldon smith pick but it's looking good, im excited now

Does the offense look better? I know its hard to say but......
Brock was the surprise guy to make the team last year right, could he make it again?

There are definitely more weapons on the field (look for Gore and Vernon to have HUGE years), but we'll only go as far as our QB will take us. But comparatively speaking, it's hard to say since they really didn't open up the playbook all that much today. Mostly underneath routes to the TE/RBs with the occasional down the seam or deep throw to a WR.

- Alex Smith was solid, especially on the underneath/check-down routes (and no, that's not a backhanded compliment). He had a beautiful throw to Ted Ginn towards the end of practice that was awesome to watch. But he made his living today throwing to the TEs and RBs.

- Kapernick has a HUGE upside and ALL the tools necessary to be a great one, but is so raw that I can't see him contributing anytime soon. When he lets it rip, the ball gets there in a hurry and seems to stick to the receivers hands. But more often than not (especially during 11-on-11 drills), he's tenative with his reads and misfires. Still, the talent is undeniable (the TD pass to Vernon over the middle was a thing of beauty, the pickoff by Joseph was not)...we just have to be VERY patient as fans.

As raw as you say Kaepernick looked, he was easily the best out there. He had the tightest, most consistent passes of any QB. You mention his overthrows or misfires, but every QB was off at times and Kaepernick was overall more accurate than the other 3. He also showed his ability to run, ripping off big runs on a couple plays when protection broke down.

Alex looked the same as he usually does. I won't say anything else about his day because it'll be construed as "hating."

I tried to get some plays recorded, but the security chicks were on their game today. I got this play of Kaepernick throwing a beautiful pass to Joe Hastings. It's not a great video and it looks like I'm a mile away, but whatever. I was also too lazy to make a YouTube account so I had my buddy upload it for me. LOL.

Yah, I never thought much about Brock. But seeing him live, you can tell he plays with real good balance, doesn't get overmatched and is generally around the ball.

I also liked the way Culliver looked overall since he was in position to make plays, but he dropped two fairly easy picks, so that was a bummer.

In terms of pure talent, Kap was definitely the best QB on the field...and it wasn't close. But in terms of effectiveness today, I gave it to Smith overall. That said, I liked Kap A LOT in the 2-minute drill. He just has a knack of fairly easily moving the ball downfield in hurry-up mode. But I thought he struggled even more than Masoli when it was just regular 11-on-11 and he was asked to sit in the pocket and make downfield reads. Not that he was horrible, but he was clearly more tentative.

Harbaugh was doing a lot of coaching when Kap was under center, making sure he got rid of the ball quicker and with better footwork.

as long as he is in position remember even at the college level he had very little experiance at CB

i think our line up will be:

rogers, spencer, brown, adams, culliver, brown

i think thats a pretty solid group

also FS is reggie smith who appears to be a ballhawk and playmaker (not just in TC but in limited playing time he had)

and SS donte whitner who is a proven elite tackler and has a nose for the ball as harbaugh puts it.dont know much about his coverage skills but he seems fundamentally sound

also our pass rush should be improved with a blitz heavy offense and better personnel i expect our pass d to improve a ton this year
