We have been spending money on CBs for YEARS....way back since Antonio Langhum.

sure it worked for players like Deon and Walt Harris...but man if we are going to break the bank, we need to do that on a pass rusher.

we can only do with coverage sacks for so long.....QBs standing back there picking our defense is very frustrating. A CB can only guard his man for so long.

The problem is that legit pass rushers seem to hit the open market A LOT less frequently than top end DB's.

Look at the list of available pass rushers this year, and tell me who's worth spending the money on? I said that months before the draft that there wasn't much out there, and our best bet would be draft pass rush and go FA corner. That's simply where the talent is this year.

So why break the bank to sign an average pass rusher? Just so the Webzone can complain forever like they do about Nate Clements?
The Corner Market: Assessing the available free-agent CBs
I think we'll make a big pitch for Ike taylor
i think there is a reason pitts weakness is the secondary. Whenever they face a good passing team they get tourched....and that is WITH THE BEST PASS RUSH IN THE LEAGUE! Taylor is a decent cb but on our team he would not be good....maybe above average but trust me he is not an upgrade

i forgot how it felt to hear about good football news

I won't believe it till I see it

1) Jonathan Joseph 26 Hitting his prime!
2) Nnamdi Asamugha 29 Best CB in the game.
3) Antonio Cromartie 26 Big plays, lapses in coverage
4) Carlos Roger 29 - Solid cover, No big plays

Ike Taylor (30) would not be a big splash He's a better version of Nate imo. JJ and Aldon Smith brings us a young duo to combine for years to come! With Nnamdi we'd be much better of course but come on the 49ers Offense won't be set for at least a year or two.
Cutting Clements would free up 14 million dollars, right? I'm not sure how it works but I saw that from Clayton.

Follow the Green Bay mold. Build the secondary around an elite corner, and draft your pass rush and defensive line. If you can free up the money Asomugha is a no brainer.

mike sando thinks we should go after nnamdi
They said they aren't going to spend money on FA's. Not big money.

And "they" are all boy scouts named George Washington, right?
if we could get any one of these guys in this order:

1) CB Jonathan Joseph CIN
2) CB Richard Marshall CAR
3) CB Josh Wilson BAL

Ike Taylor is overrated b/c he only has to cover for half as long as most corners b/c of the Steelers good pass rush. Cromartie is trash, and Nnamdi is gonna be too expensive.

Nnamdi
Joesph
Rogers
Marshall
Taylor although I really think the Cards are going to go after him if DRC leaves.

We do have FA options though.
