This is the same argument presented for Alex Smith every single time he gets compared to Rodgers. Excuse after excuse. The truth is, Rodgers is just a better QB. Period. His first few years as a starter, he was under more pressure from pass rushes than any other QB in the league. People say he has good receivers, but sometimes a QB makes his receivers good - example: Peyton Manning (who the hell are Garcon and Collie?). Rodgers knows how to win, Alex doesn't. All the excuses in the world won't change the fact that we messed up by picking Alex over Rodgers.

As I've said before, if Rodgers came here, his path would be tougher and he may not be at the elite level that he is now, but he'd be better than Alex has been for us.

this is what i dont like. people predicting that rodgers would automatically be a better QB here than smith just because he is a good QB for another team. they started in 2 different situations. we dont know how he would have turned out here.

i am not making excuses for alex. he sucks.
People miss the big picture. If we started back in 05 with a stable offensive minded coach who understood today's/tomorrow's game...we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

Ive said it before: Alex Smith is THE symbol of this organizations bungling over the last decade. Was he good? Nah. Was he the worst? No. Could things have turned out better? Safe to assume yes.

Let's just hope this decade isn't marked with poor coaching, scheming, strategy, and/or management.

No we missed and missed badly. Stop making excuses for that loser.

so r u saying we would have won a super bowl last year if we had rodgers?

im not making excuses for alex playing badly. im just saying its not fair to compare him with rodgers. they were in two different situations, thats all.

No. We more than likely would not have been in the SB last year had we taken Rogers. Our org has been garbage over that time span.

But I'd be willing to guarantee that the pack wouldn't have gone to the SB w/Smith.
No way no how.

I'd also be willing to guarantee that we sure as heck wouldn't be searching every trash pile on the earths surface for a QB right now.

We swung, we missed by a mile. Its happens. Let's just hope the new regime gets it right this time around.
Why do they insist on doing these shows? It's over. You can't go back in time. If they could they should have fixed the labor situation, so there would be no lockout now.
Before the draft Rodgers and Smith spoke to bay area media:

“I think I’m a guy you can build around,” Rodgers said. “I think my leadership style, plus my skills, make me the kind of guy you can stick in a situation and then bring guys in to make me better and make the team better.” “With a brand new coach in, bringing the top pick in, I think the expectations are going to be high, and they should be,” Rodgers said. “And the Bay Area should expect this team to be a lot better next year.”

“Obviously, this is a young team,” Smith said prior to joining the 49ers. “This is not something that’s going to be turned around right away. We’re not going to be winning Super Bowls next year, I don’t imagine, although we’d like to.” “That definitely depends on how well I’m doing coming into camp, how well the other quarterbacks are playing, and how well I’m picking up the system,” Smith said. “So it’s tough to say. I feel like I can step in right away and if all goes well, play early.”

Pretty much a reflection on how they both are today.

Smith even sounded like a p*ssy before he was drafted. No confidence at all, and he displayed that lack of confidence for the last 6 years. We should've drafted Rodgers.. Biggest mistake of the century.
This comparison will make me cringe for the rest of my life. God I cant wait to have a serviceable QB again, let alone a great one that Niner fans should expect.

Ya but rumor has it that Nolan thought Smith would be more of a team guy, and Rodgers would question why the Niners put him through some of the drills they did on his visit.

All these "Nolan guys" and we are now tagged as a team that doesn't have a guy that will get in your face when you're not playing strong enough and yell at you.

I think the pick had a lot to do with the coach.
