i wouldn't say we "missed" in picking alex. he had no talent around him and coaches were coming in and out every year. rodgers and smith have had different paths to where they are now. whos to say rodgers would have success if we picked him?

exactly rodgers sat 4 years before taking over 1 14-2 team
alex started right away with 2-14 team

Rogers would have changed everything. He would have thrived in Martz's offense, made it really spectacular. Not without faults, of course, but so much better and more successful that Nolan would not have gotten unhinged and fired when he did.
Singletary would not have been the head coach here, but hopefully for one of our rivals...
This isn't a bash at Smith so much. He simply was not mentally or physically suited for the wide-open structure of Martz's system and nobody could overcome the idiocy of Singletary's filosofy.

smith was injured during martz year
but in retrospect rodgers holds on to the ball for a long time i honestly dont see him doing that with our o lines in the past

you cant really say rodgers would have had success with Martz. Alex had some success with Turner, but he left. plain and simple, rodgers had consistency and time to learn with a QB friendly head coach. smith has had none of that. i only defend smith because i feel bad for the guy.

In other news.... They have Frank Gore going 5th overall in the redo.
How is Gore not listed as the best value pick in the 3rd round???
And how is Ronald Fields listed as the best value pick in the 5th round??

Evil spirits made me use the S-word. I got a Singletary replica wooden cross and waved it at the keyboard, so hopefully I will regain control over my fingers.

See, the Whole league even knows Alex Smith is garbage. All Alexcuses aside, Alex Smith will never come close to Aaron Rodgers.

Because Ronald Fields is a nobody today. He's not even on our team anymore.

to all niner fans in this thread saying alex smith wasn't wrong pick... what are you smoking and where can I get some? YES HE WAS THE WRONG PICK ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Its pathetic how many excuses people can come up with for this guy. After six years when all you have excuses you're a BUST. deal with it. It's ok. Just accept it. So we can all move on. I'm done talking about Alex smith and how much potential he has. This is a "What have you done for me lately?" league. So Alex Smith Homers What has he done for me lately? ................ exactly. conversation OVER.

thats not the discusiion is would rodgers do any better the answer is probally notdont be delusional if you think there is no difference between taking ovw=er an nfc championship team and having a stable offesnsive system
and taking over a 2-14 team with the most consistant WR was arnaz battle till VD a year ago having different OC every year and the star at o line for his first 2 seasons was kwame brown
all the offensive coaches who coached him or has seen extensive game film like him
norv martz and now harbaugh
is he a bust so far yes is he a terrible qb no 48 tds and 38 int since his rookie season and he has yet to have a average coach who knows anything about offense
