thats not the discusiion is would rodgers do any better the answer is probally notdont be delusional if you think there is no difference between taking ovw=er an nfc championship team and having a stable offesnsive system

and taking over a 2-14 team with the most consistant WR was arnaz battle till VD a year ago having different OC every year and the star at o line for his first 2 seasons was kwame brown

all the offensive coaches who coached him or has seen extensive game film like him
norv martz and now harbaugh

is he a bust so far yes is he a terrible qb no 48 tds and 38 int since his rookie season and he has yet to have a average coach who knows anything about offense
dude again you just listed more excuses. we have heard em a million times. Martz liked him? thats why he started for him right? and do we really know if harbaugh likes him? I mean he isnt gonna talk sh*t about him if he is his only option. lets put it this way ryan fitzpatrick on the awful bills put up 25 tds and over 3,000 yards. something smith couldnt accomplish. so again when has alex smith manned up and faced the adversity and played well. NEVER. he is a scape goat to get destroyed while harbaugh installs the offense at best. He is a good back up bad starter. We have one of the moat talented offenses in our division and when he needs to step up most he never does. so again what has he done for me lately? get rid of him.

excuses? im sorry but if you think rodgers taking over a 14-2 team on a stable offense where smith taking over a 2-14 and having a different oc every year is an excuses u dont really know football

martz liked him on gametape but couldnt start him because he was on IR and a seperated shoulder and had to get surgury during TC

we know harbaugh likes him because he tried to sign him before the CBA ran out

fitzpatrick did good however he has a really good o line but alex had a better qb rating 600 less yards and 7 less td while playing 6 games less and keep in mind since MJ was his OC he had a rating of 93

We were 2-14 for a damn good reason....WE DIDNT HAVE A QB!

When A Smith was first drafted, we had a better O-Line then we do today. We had players like Larry Allen, Justin Smiley, Harvey Dahl, Eric Heitman, Jennings, Baas. K. Harris was on that line so thats the only blemish really. When Jennings played, which was rarely, our RBs had big numbers.
We also had VD and Gore during smith's tenure...arguable the most talented O we had since the Mooch days.. All we needed was that QB...

This year's OL will feature Staley who is becoming injury ridden, Heitman was out all year, baas and A.Davis are still questionable. Iupati is the only beast. C. Rachel is the modern day Kwame.

A.Smith came in and was just like the Qbs before him and just like the ones after him who got a chance during his tenure.

Rattay, Dorsey, O'Sullivan, Dilfer, T.Smith, S.Hill...A.Smith is just another s**tty QB on that list...

He had time under McCarthy, Norv Turner, and Mike Martz...All of those OCs who have had prior success all put Smith on the bench at one point over another scrubby QB.

Its time to move on. If he accepts that 1 year deal fine. We need to draft a QB high and get a solid free agent acquisition. We have coddled this guy for too long.

on bolded smith started over rattay for mccarthy mid season he took all snaps under norv and was placed on IR in TC for martz

i agree smith has been a dissapointment but since his rookie year he has 48 td and 38 int we have yet to ave a good HC till now

i agree if smith comes back we need to ake a qb in 2nd round and we havent coddled him we have ruined his career

You're right on the Turner one...but Smith still had an sub par year with all those snaps.

We coddled him last year by trading away our backup Hill, pronouncing him starter at the seasons start based on absolutely nothing, and failing to acquire a serviceable backup....Troy Smith and David Carr??? I mean, come on....
That is coddling to your "star" player when he hasn't even proven diddly...

When Walsh was the coach the players worked their tails off because if they didn't perform...no matter the excuse, they were cut.

look at who he has had for Head Coaches? Nolan and Singletary. Neither of which are a HC in the league right now. Hell Singletary is a damn positions coach again. Alex has never had competent coaching.

Read my post above.

Smith had time under McCarthy, Norv Turner, and Mike Martz...All of those OCs who have had prior success all put Smith on the bench at one point over another scrubby QB.

Its time to move on.

Smith was a rookie on a horrible team with McCarthy and he didn't even play the entire season. Under Norv Turner Alex showed progression and was expected to have a break out season the following season but Turner left. Martz? He was on IR during the Martz era. So try again.

That rookie team wasn't that bad. We had a solid OL. Better then the one we have today. Also, Smith was on the bench because Mcarthy put him there. Smith was off and on with Hill in the Martz era.

I've already pointed that to be false.

No we missed and missed badly. Stop making excuses for that loser.

so r u saying we would have won a super bowl last year if we had rodgers?

im not making excuses for alex playing badly. im just saying its not fair to compare him with rodgers. they were in two different situations, thats all.

exactly rodgers sat 4 years before taking over 1 14-2 team
alex started right away with 2-14 team

At least we are starting to speak clearly without taking shots, and I have to agree. I love when they always compare these two, and i laugh when even commentators made the announcment in a comparison on ESPN maybe a year ago, that u never know if Rodgers would of had the same thing happen had he been drafted by San Fran. To say sitting behind a HOF makes no difference is just thinking one sided.

But i hope at least we learned our lessons now, and we dont throw this years Rook to the wolves, regardless of what vet we bring in. Because I dont care if we bring in Alex, Mcnabb, Palmer, (Philly can keep Kolb), and maybe J. Johnson. Make sure they put him in when they feel he's confident, and can prosper in the role. Dont just say well the one stop gap may have failed and put him in ready or not. I dont know who we are gonna draft, but damn i hope we take our time with him. Especially if he's gonna be the future face of the franchise.

What is our percentage of valuable starters from the last 5 years drafts? Anyone know?

maybe. or maybe rodgers sucks worse than smith. or maybe we win back-to-back SBs. we will never know. i just don't like people comparing rodgers and smith since they dont know how rodgers would have handled THIS situation.

They are always gonna get compared just like people compare Ryan Leaf to Manning. Smith and Rodgers were the consensus top QBs of that draft class. I know they got thrown into different situations but just looking at the two dudes its very easy to see that Rodgers just has more natural talent.

This is the same argument presented for Alex Smith every single time he gets compared to Rodgers. Excuse after excuse. The truth is, Rodgers is just a better QB. Period. His first few years as a starter, he was under more pressure from pass rushes than any other QB in the league. People say he has good receivers, but sometimes a QB makes his receivers good - example: Peyton Manning (who the hell are Garcon and Collie?). Rodgers knows how to win, Alex doesn't. All the excuses in the world won't change the fact that we messed up by picking Alex over Rodgers.

As I've said before, if Rodgers came here, his path would be tougher and he may not be at the elite level that he is now, but he'd be better than Alex has been for us.

There are lots of things you woulda, coulda, shoulda done in life. Bring me a trophy when you go back in time and fix all those things...
