He's right. We still have the most talented football team in the division and have been held back by inept coaching.

We need a QB, a pass rusher opposite Brooks, a corner, a guard, and a wideout to go opposite Crabtree. If we had a QB and got a pass rusher I'd say we are a 10-6, 11-5 football team. To be in contention for the superbowl, we need all 5 of those things.

Also have to look for a replacement for Gore soon, as he has about 1-2 years left at high caliber max.

I don't mean to be a debbie downer, but that's a lot of s**t. However, I agree completely with you. We need a QB, pass-rush and CB and I think we will at the very least win the division and get a home playoff game

It's VERY unfortunate that there's a lockout it's going to hurt the 49ers a lot.I think a good coaching staff is going to show us SIGNIFICANT amounts of improvement overall. However, with no time to implement the offense and mentality of JH, we're probably looking at a sloppy 2011 season if there is one.

It's going to screw us hard. if indeed this doesn't pick up until august don't count on or expect big things this year.

I agree with the above.

It's time, more than anything else, that the Niners need now. In that sense, I wonder if our off season priorities might be shifting away from QB, Pass rusher/CB, O-line to Pass rusher/CB, O-line, QB?

Clearly, we want to ink the best QB available, but between the softness of this year's draft and free agency classes and the lock out's compression of the off season time frame, it may soon make more sense to adjust our priorities toward what is most easily implemented given the limited time frame and options available.

Obviously, we're not there yet--it all hinges on next month's injunction ruling, I guess. If, however, the players association fails to win the injunction hearing, that may force us to significantly adjust our off season strategy because it's more than likely there won't be a training camp, let alone OTAs, supplementary OTAs, or mini camp.
We have no qb, no RG, no C(in limbo), no true passrusher, no #1 corner, no ball hawking safety, no legit #2 wr, no offense or defense installed.

Yeah we are really close, close to landing the #1 pick in the draft.

Yeah, they've only been trying to fill those holes for almost a decade....

Here's a thought. Let's see if we can direct this thread a bit.

Which of the above needs (QB, CB, and Pass Rush) do you think we need the most?

The biggest need LAST YEAR was a pass rush. That need still exists.

Now add a QB to the list. Unfortunately there is none equal to the #7 overall so...

If the Rams grab a big-time WR for Bradford to throw it to, we will need much better corner play to stay in the ball game.

49ers won't win the division unless all three of those are solved.

Close behind is getting a RG to protect the QB and lead some runs. Rachal could be that guy but he still hasn't shown it. The 49ers will not get beyond the first round without solving this need.

If those four needs are met, then we start looking at safety. Goldson won't start for a team that wins the NFC.

And we don't even know about Baas, Franklin and Lawson. Those could also be critical needs that must be filled to go beyond the division.

I don't see this division as being as winnable as some think. Seattle jelled well in the end and will likely keep Hasselback. The Rams will be very tough with Bradford getting another year experience. Those will be difficult hills to climb even if AZ does not find a QB.

Sorry but the glass is half empty and might have a few more big drops spill out. Coach Jim has a BIG job ahead.

How could I forget about Franklin? Lawson was tendered so im not to worried about him. Dont forget we still need to install the offensive and defensive playbooks. The players dont know anything about the schemes at this point.

We're not nearly as good you think, and let's not forget just how little time Harbaugh could have to coach those players up with this lockout.

We're much closer to the 1st pick in the draft then we are the NFC title game. I hate being the debbie downer because I love the Harbaugh hire, but the guy is not Jesus. He's not going to turn Alex into a good signal caller. He's not going to make our slow @ss receiving core faster. Rookie corner, or rookie pass rusher either way there's going to be learning curve.

All I'm saying is don't bet on it, and if we go into the season with Alex as the starter. Things could go sour fast. If we start off slow like we did last year, Alex is going to get booed out of the building and Harbaugh would have no choice but to play a Colt McCoy esque rookie way before he's ready.

If he brings Alex Smith back Harbaugh days may be numbered, I hope he doesnt fall for this guy.

for me every year is the year
Is it just me, or does this thread get recreated every year?

Don't be mad because this thread has a lot of people thinking and your threads don't. These are questions that need to be answered every year to see where we are. It's called a yearly inventory of our team. Check it.

I actually pray you're right. We need some Luck in 2012.
those positions are not easy to fill and in an offseason like this its even more unlikely
