The Center/Gaurd and NT positions scare me the most. Without consistent line play on both sides of the ball nothing is going to go smoothly. Even if we get a QB, CB, Etc, its not going to do a whole lot of good if the oline cant give the QB time to hit the open receivers. And if our NT cant plug up the middle and play stout upfront nothing behind him is gonna matter much. If their offensive lines are getting to the second level and engaging in blocks with our LBs (IE P52) then our defense is in big trouble.

We're not nearly as good you think, and let's not forget just how little time Harbaugh could have to coach those players up with this lockout.

We're much closer to the 1st pick in the draft then we are the NFC title game. I hate being the debbie downer because I love the Harbaugh hire, but the guy is not Jesus. He's not going to turn Alex into a good signal caller. He's not going to make our slow @ss receiving core faster. Rookie corner, or rookie pass rusher either way there's going to be learning curve.

All I'm saying is don't bet on it, and if we go into the season with Alex as the starter. Things could go sour fast. If we start off slow like we did last year, Alex is going to get booed out of the building and Harbaugh would have no choice but to play a Colt McCoy esque rookie way before he's ready.

Yeah, they've only been trying to fill those holes for almost a decade....

Here's a thought. Let's see if we can direct this thread a bit.

Which of the above needs (QB, CB, and Pass Rush) do you think we need the most?

QB. And for some reason I feel like we're finally gonna hit on a good one in this draft.

Qb is always the greatest need but i don't know how much difference there is between ponder and dalton, or newton and gabbert. so there is one to grabbed in almost every round. a good pash rusher though is hard to find. i think we have to get a pass rusher early. a good one will get a least 8 sacks and will also help the rest of the D get sacks. will open up holes for brooks, willis, laboy, etc... also helps our corners not cover so long. we can get a corner in the 2nd or 3rd round. niners have been great at stopping the run but horrible at stopping the pass. we have to get to the quarterback.

Very true. It seems like most people don't realize who much having a great line(offensive and defensive) makes the job of the the skill position players (QB,WR,RB,CB,LB,S) easier.

He's right. We still have the most talented football team in the division and have been held back by inept coaching.

We need a QB, a pass rusher opposite Brooks, a corner, a guard, and a wideout to go opposite Crabtree. If we had a QB and got a pass rusher I'd say we are a 10-6, 11-5 football team. To be in contention for the superbowl, we need all 5 of those things.

Also have to look for a replacement for Gore soon, as he has about 1-2 years left at high caliber max.

I don't mean to be a debbie downer, but that's a lot of s**t. However, I agree completely with you. We need a QB, pass-rush and CB and I think we will at the very least win the division and get a home playoff game

It's VERY unfortunate that there's a lockout it's going to hurt the 49ers a lot.

I think a good coaching staff is going to show us SIGNIFICANT amounts of improvement overall. However, with no time to implement the offense and mentality of JH, we're probably looking at a sloppy 2011 season if there is one.

...Indeed you are right sir.
We need a QB.

We need a QB more than anything else right now. An average line would suffice for a pro bowl QB.
Good coaching could mend many problems. An agressive D may make the CBs better, the OLine problems could be masked by good playcalling, and the pass rush might be more productive if a five year old couldn't predict who was going to blitz.

So, QB is the biggest hole and with only Carr signed...ouch!
We need Chilo Rachal to go back to "BEAST MODE"
Moderator: "Which of the above needs (QB, CB, and Pass Rush) do you think we need the most?"

Cornerback, especially if Patrick Peterson is still there at seven. And then, Christian Ponder in the second. That would be a home run in my book. Yes, pass rush is a need, but these days, it seems like more a matter of scheme, especially with Fangio coming in.
Those are hard things to find. A lot of teams go 10 years without a dominant QB, pass rusher, shut down CB.
This post was so on point it's scary. All we need is a franchise QB, shutdown corner and elite passrusher. Seriously, how hard could that be to find?
