Do 49er fans live in the past more than any other team?

If this board is a fair representation of how the majority of Niner fans feel, then I totally agree. But I'll even take it one step further.

Niner fans are the same whiny, delusional, "we have a divine right to be contending for the championship every year" as Yankees fans.

This team hasnt been good in 8 years (actually, it's been downright awful), but most fans an "objectively" look at the roster and the emblem on the side of the helmet, and conclude that "We'll roll through the West", or "Conservatively 10-6, but probably 11-5 or 12-4", or "Arizona and Seattle aren't that good". Meanwhile, the Rams have leapfrogged SF.

Until proven otherwise, this team is a shade below mediocre. But after the draft and free agency, the confident playoff predictions will start rolling in.

It's sad, really.

we've been bad lately, at least we have a past to live in, teams like arz and sea only have division titles to reflect upon. once upon a time green bay from 1972-1992 made ther playoffs only 2 or 3 times, dallas just recently ended a playoff losing streak that last about 15 years, better days are ahead.

If you used to root for the best team in the league for 15 years, then the next ten years were $h!t, you'd look to the past and compare.

Not only were the 49ers the best in the league, a lot of teams were among the best EVER. Compare that to some of the worst ever the last decade, and I don't blame some people for living in the past.

I don't do it myself. but I understand the urge.

The catch in your question is "more than any other teams." The 9ers were great for a little over a decade, years ago, and haven't been good since. Other teams have similar pasts but are better now, or recently, so they have more to talk about currently. Green Bay, Dallas, Pittsburg, NE, Giants, all come to mind.

So, yes but for good reason! We compare to Green Bay before Favre, and Pittsburg before Big Ben. Harbaugh has brought a ray of sunshine this year and if he turns the team around you will see less reflection on days gone by.

I see the 9ers future similar to Green Bay over the past number of years, having been wandering in the desert for years before their resurgence. They were the only team as dominant as Walsh's 9ers in their time.

Us old timers don't live in the past, but they do like to day dream about it a lot.

I think they do. I wish I'd actually been in that 'past' to even be able to 'live' in it.
