Are you saying the play of the offensive line can effect the QB? I never thought of that. I'm going to email your post to Harbaugh right now to make sure he is fully informed.
WIth that said, when you look at the best Olines and QBs in the league I think it's hard to tell how good the Oline really is. Franchise QBs win even when their Oline makes mistakes. I'm sure you watched the Superbowl. How many times did Big Ben make a play with defenders in the backfield? This is not unusual for Franchise QB. And before you come back to me with an extreme example argument, keep in mind I'm talking about average olines, not horrible ones. I'm pretty sure it's a fact our Oline was at least average.
Aaron Rodgers had a HORRIBLE O-Line his first year starting. He put up over 4,000 yards, 28 TDs and only 13 INTs - establishing himself as one of the better QBs in the league. He was the most hit and under pressure QB in the league that year.
O-Linemen obviously affect the QB play, but when a QB is simply GOOD, they can make things happen. Our O-Line isn't the best, but it isn't as bad as it's made out to be sometimes. There were plenty of times when our QB had great protection, but still couldn't make a play. Troy Smith sometimes stepped up and bounced to the outside when it was unnecessary and seemed to only by looking for the big play, thus resulting in many missed opportunities. Alex Smith often dumped off to the check down option before even scanning other options (many times managing to ruin that pass, somehow). There wasn't even enough time for a pass rush to be generated before Alex checked down to Gore.
I'm not saying our line didn't allow our QBs to be put under heavy pressure at times, but even the times when they allowed the QB enough protection to make something happen, our QB failed to do it. In our case, the blame cannot be placed strictly on the OL. The QB needs to own up to some of the blame.
