I like your thinking. Heck I think the Niners would be OK to swap draft picks in rounds 1-7 with Philadelphia to obtain Kevin Kolb. You would still have your picks and a qb who can run the WCO.

The draft feels deep this year on OLB, but Patrick falling to #7 would be a miracle, along with landing VJ. This would give our new QB a nice big target, which would instantly bolster our offense. The best defense is a good offense.

Why get both Asomugha AND Peterson? It should be sign a CB and draft a pass rusher or vice versa IMO. I'd personally prefer what others have dreamed about (); Sign Asomugha and draft Miller.

maybe with the thought that elite corners are more difficult to find than elite Pr's.

Oh, you are right. My bad. I forgot about how easy it has been to find an elite (or even serviceable) pass rusher for us lately.

Just because WE haven't been able to find one doesn't negate the fact that generally speaking, elite PR's are more available than elite CB's.

The only problem is that a new labor agreement needs to be in place by draft day so players can be dealt.

If Kolbe is too expensive, then I think Tampa's Back-up has experience with Harbaugh.
Josh Johnson could do at QB (ala Matt Castle) If we trade for Johnson, I would take Ponder in the second round, and resign one of our Smiths at QB (either one really I don't see much difference between them)
