if the doors close from March 4th - Late August

If the worst case plays out and we have bascially none of the new offensive system installed weeks before a shortened regular season starts it could go a long way in placing us at the front of the line in the 2012 Andrew Luck sweepstakes.

Would it be worth taking a bullet in 2011 to have that opportunity?

F no it wouldnt be worth it. Niner fan base cant endure to much more losing, also nobody is a sure as far as comes to the NFL.

I don't want David Carr even considered for starting a game, but if late August is the worst case senario, maybe he is good enough to learn the playbook and hold unofficial practices with his teamates to work on things durring the offseason.

I think the OP's scenario is the most likely outcome.

If you've lived through a few work stoppages, you can't help but look at that chicken with a jaundiced eye. In the run up to every work stoppage in pro sports you hear the same warmed over arguments that we're hearing now: there's no need to list them, they're always the same.

But this labor impasse is very unique: the owners are, strategically, on the back foot. Between the injury Genie coming out of the bottle (which will never go away) and the effects of the economy on their tediously leveraged stadia, they're jammed up. The owners *must* fight a rearguard action to maintain a status quo that is quickly slipping away from beneath their feet. That means a lock out.

Strategically, the leveraged owners *must* break the players for concessions--to maintain the status quo. Otherwise, they're up the creek. Unfortunately for the owners, very few of them are leveraged up the wazoo and willing to go to war for an extended period.

Ultimately, I think the whole thing comes down to Bob Kraft. Kraft has been careful to keep independent side channels open to the media and players. With his stadium safely sunk, Kraft has very little to win (and a lot to lose) from a work stoppage--as do most owners.

I suspect that Kraft and his camp will allow the Jerry Jones wing to bluster *through* training camp, then pull the rug out from under them when the season is imperiled.

I suspect that we'll be lucky to have a pre-season game next year. Unfortunately, I do not see scab football in the cards--which rocks, btw.

In short, I think the OP is correct. Next year is going to be difficult, even if we do (in hindsight) get the QB situation sorted out.

A quick follow up question.

As a DC resident, I don't have the benefit of your close range reporting. I'm wondering where the Yorks are in this fiasco. I'm assuming that they're one of Jerry Jones' good time buddies, but once the stuff hits the fan they'll break away with Kraft?

Given their situation, the last thing they want are a bunch of embittered taxpayers and lost revenues, right?

I think they'll just go to VD's house and party.... That's what I would do.
