Hey, give the guy the benefit of doubt. He could be talking about Troy Smith...

I think Troy fits the WCO much better than Alex. I'd give him a shot first.

I agree that Troy > Alex but if we are seriously considering starting either one next year than 2011 =

LOL True; but, I'm trying to stay within the context of the original question. Only using the options provided, I think Troy might be the best one to start the season.

David Carr
A drafted rookie
Alex Smith
A currently unsigned FA/"guy off the street" (who?)

God I pray not
Both of our Smiths lack touch on short range passes, Troy however has a sweet play action! Troy problem and plenty of QB's do this Alex included, is he does not seem to read the defense properly or lacks trust in the play design.
When a QB does this they tend to take the snap hold the ball and count to three, and then improvise! Alex chooses to check down, Troy prefers to scramble around and force the ball down field.

Same problem different outcome, me I resign Troy Smith, get a Trent Edwards, and draft Ponder. I let T.Smith and Edwards battle it out for the starting job, and and let Ponder learn, next year I draft another QB, and I don't stop taking QBs in the middle rounds until I have one!

We can have Ponder 2-3 round, we get us a pass rusher in the 7 spot!

F$%K no to Locker !!!!!!

Are you f'n crazy to Newton!!

I would rather start Alex over these two guys.

I would start Dennis Dixon who is scheduled to be a FA

Whoa 43% support Alex?!!!! I would never have guessed judging by the way my thread is going on his Qb rating with Raye and Johnson differentiated and he had a 90 rating with Johnson as OC. Alex supporters I have some great stats for you. Check out my thread http://www.49erswebzone.com/forum/thread.php?num=152071

Smith is better than a rookie, which one, but i will say this rookies in past years have play MUCH better than him. Time to move on with Smith, I really hope Harbaguh does too.
There isnt much available right now but at least wait until FA begins before making a judgement. Got to see if theres any QBs available if there team had to cut them because of salary cap reasons. I think ALex has to come back for one more year as an insurance.

I'd love to move on...if there's a better option. This is a weak draft class for QBs imo. I hope we draft someone that proves me wrong.
