Am I right in remembering that Brown was the only non-white coach on Harbaugh's new staff? (not counting the strength and conditioning guys). If so, I'd guess that's pretty rare in today's NFL.

Makes sense, we don't need three OL coaches and assigning him to tight ends wasn't a great fit.

One of the reports I read today said Carolina called the Niners to seek permission to speak with Brown and the Niners allowed it. With Solari and Drevno it's better for Ray to move on to a more prominent role with the Panthers and we don't have a guard learning how to coach TE's. It's a win win.
I hope this is the case where Harbaugh didn't want to just let him go but was willing to if he had a better offer. I don't blame him for taking a better offer as long as the 9ers gave permission for him to leave.
I'm not concerned about losing him it just alarmed me I thought he, Solari, Tomsula and Rathman were officially back. I just hope the other 3 stay on board as planned/reported.

Wendell Davis and Ejiro Evero would disagree.

There is still no guarantee that Wendell Davis is staying either. Jim Harbaugh has only announced that DL coach Jim Tomsula, O-line coach Mike Solari, and RB coach Tom Rathman are being retained on staff.

Ah, okay, thanks.
Hadn't heard about Evero and assumed Davis was leaving because he wasn't on the "staying" list and and Sullivan is gone.
Out of curiosity, does anybody know what tasks being a "quality control" coach actually entails?
Not trying to diminish the position, I just have no idea.
EDIT: Ignore me.
But if you're curious too: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/27/sports/football/27quality.html?_r=1
It's basically a gopher/secretary/general assistant
Apparently the position was invented by our very own 49ers.

Sounds like a crowded kitchen to me. Brown probably wants to work somewhere where he can rise to the top. Too bad, I liked the throwback.
I don't blame him for leaving. It sounded like too many cooks in the kitchen if you ask me. I wish him the best of luck.

Yea the moves sounds about right. Team doesn't need 3 o line coaches and why in the world should he be coaching tight ends. Good luck.
