Not over on the 49ers.com message board. Most of the people are saying go packers because they would rather not see the Steelers get to 7. I guess they forgot about the Packers potentially costing us super bowls 3 times with Steve Young. They have won 13 of 14 against us in regular season and post season. Everyone should be hoping they go into so many over times they declare the first super bowl tie. Nah, they can want one team over another just not sure why they are saying go packers.

Funny I thought the 2nd St. Louis game was pretty important.lol I know Mike Singletary thought so.

Yep from 1981 to 2004 we ruled the roost! Hope it returns again, and please don't let the Steelers get to 7 before us! We passed them once, I hope we can do it again?

2003 and 2004 werent good years at all. 9 wins over those years isn't ruling the roost

When I watch the games I am thinking why couldn't all our losing playoff teams have played teams like these back then? We would have 10 super bowls. Seriously, if those Steve Young or Montana led teams that lost to say the Packers, Giants, Cowboys, Redskins etc played these teams today I don't think it would be close.

The talent level of today's league is a lot more spread out than it was back in the day. Back then, it felt like there were about 3-5 REALLY good teams, and then the rest.... Today, it feels like there isn't a REALLY good team, but rather, 5-10 pretty good teams.

I would like to see the roster size bumped up a little

Not only that, but allow everyone to be active on gameday...

I say f**k both those teams. f**k the Packers because as soon as we got away from the yearly meetings with Dallas in the playoffs, GB took their place and cost us several chances at SBs.
f**k the Steelers cause nobody likes a RAPE-O........I'm looking at you Rapethlisberger. Add the fact that the Steelers have more SB wins......f**k em.

At the end of the day though, someone has to win. Should be a great game and I'm looking forward to watching it.

EDIT- One other reason I say f**k the Steelers.... They have their own "top 10" on NFL network. Where's the Niner list? Is there one, but I haven't seen it? What is so great about the Steelers?

The Niners used to be just like the Steelers are now...they expected to win. They had a dynamic, mostly balanced offense combined with outstanding ST's and always a stalwart defense. They had the best coaching staffs in the league...and the greatest owner. Put all that together and it's no wonder there are 5 Lombardi Trophy's on display. There could've and perhaps shoud've been more...but the point is, Eddie D and Bill Walsh built a dynasty...a team that competed seriously for the SB each and every season. If Harbaugh can get back to anything approaching that, it'll be awesome. FWIW, Walsh told Steve Young he felt strongly that Harbaugh would become the next great NFL coach...and I'm sure he had the Niners in mind.
I remember looking at the scheduals and not being nervious about half of the teams on it, and then not being nervious about the other half during the games. Its sad that this is what the team has sunk to. On the bright side, I get the feeling we aren't looking at a quick fix, but a true rebuilding. Here's to a competitive 2011 and a full on return to playoff appearances and wins for years to come staring 2012.
I was just watching the Complete History the other night and I thought about how fun it used to be to go to the games in the 80's and 90's, knowing we were going to win, and there were very little opposing fans there.

Plus that was when my parents were still paying for the tickets.

Made me kinda sad.
It wasn't the packers that cost Steve Young/49ers more Superbowls. It was the piss-poor officiating. Replay after replay we saw the packers get away with blown calls, as well as the 49ers getting calls on them that were obviously not correct. The best line was when Steve Young was asked about one of the calls that the 49ers got away with, he said,,,(and I can not exactly quote it) "We had so many incorrect calls on us, if we get away with one, so be it!" It was clear the league officials must have had a love affair with Farve. Sorry, I know it's FAVRE, but if you pronounce the R before the V, it's probably that hicks fault for not knowing how to spell his name.
