Balke Interview on KNBR Today

Balke was on KNBR a while ago and talked about the role of the OLB and to paraphrase, we'll remain a 3-4 defense AND the #1 responsibility of the OLB will be to pass rush en route to his #2 responsibility of playing the run. Ladies and gentlemen, BALKE GETS IT! Manusky is polar opposite in his vision of the OLB to #1, defend the run, #2 drop back in coverage and $3 rush the passer with specialists on 3rd downs; totally azz-backwards and it's why Manusky is gone.

BTW: That was one of the best GM interviews I've ever heard. Balke really seems to have a serious pulse on this organization and to each players strengths/weaknesses and takes into account the bigger picture. He covered the OLB positon (even across the NFL/college), Anthony Davis (and the entire o-line, player by player), Josh Morgan, the QB position (big time), etc. He even covered "motivation" of players and how this affects play as well as age. He had specific examples of good play against top competition. It was a very very good interview and I highly recommend listening to it if you get a chance. Kudos to Fitz and Brooks on this one for shutting up and asking relevant questions.

It was very encouraging...

So that pretty much guarantees that Manny Lawson is NOT coming back.

I never thought Manny wanted to come back given his bitterness towards the organization of not signing him to a long-term contract and given barring the laceration to Brooks' kidney, almost lost his job during his "protest" in the off-season. I always thought he'd head to FA and sign with a 4-3 defense which would be wonderful for him esp. if he lost 10-15 pounds and got his speed back; a defense that would be more tailored to his strengths.

i heard it as well, baalke knows what hes talking about
LOL! When talking about the OL, he said good things about every position except for RG.

LT: Staley's injures were "freak" injuries and not injuries that happen due to being injury prone.

LG: Iupati didn't even play at the top tier in college so he basically jumped 2 levels his rookie year.

C: David Baas did a solid job for them having to switch to Center.

RG: He's young.

RT: Davis played very well in games against the better pass rushers in the league and later in the year as he was more comfortable.

at the RG comment.

If that doesn't indicate we will be looking for an upgrade, then I don't know what does.

He also said the Harbaugh might take some snaps at QB.

He mentioned every guy by name except Chilo. I got that exact same vibe as well and starting laughing a bit myself.

I really hope Chilo is not a starter next year. Him and Sing must have been close because he should not have been playing

You fricken tease! Where is the link?
Wait a minute, people on this site are suppose to be bashing Baalke instead of giving him a chance to prove himself.
What day was the interview?
Did he mention anything about the Goldson, Franklin, Crabtree?
