I don't think it's Madden talk.. The Patriots do it, the Eagles do it.. Let go of players a year early before a year too late. The RB posistion isn't what it once was. You don't need one bell cow unless he is truely extrodinary. You can usually get the job done with a multiple back system. Simpletary didn't seem to understand this so he force fed Gore and had no other dymensions to his offense.. Look at the past few SB winners.. Saints, Colts, Giants, Patriots....

You're mixing up the point you're making. 1st, we aren't the Pats or Philly with an extremely talented team, and can afford to move out talent to get better at places of need through the draft. On top of that, they don't move the best player they have on offense to do it. I'll give you the Pats moving Moss, but we all know that's a unique situation, as well as that team being all about Brady. Moving Gore would be getting rid of the hands down, best player on our offense.

2nd, it's not Gore's fault Sing wanted to pound him so hard. Of course he'll take it on, because most guys with that kind of fire want the ball that much. Put him into a better offense that doesn't need him to be 40% of the production and he could be even more effective than what he already is.

I really do get the idea. I just think with our roster, this isn't the right move. And again:

I think you're exactly right. However, I'm skeptical that the trade value commanded by Gore exceeds his utility to the club.

You've made a great summary of why it makes sense to trade Gore. Unfortunately, I'm assuming that our potential trading partners are up to speed on this argument, thereby diminishing his trade value.

Oh yes def he isn't worth trading any longer. I would ride him till the wheels fell off now. No one in their right mind would offer more than a 4th or 5th round pick for Gore now. He's still a Good back, so hopefully he can return to form next season.

Alex Smith, well he's not overrated....

Nate Clements must go, he gets burned all the time

f**k YEA!!!!! THAT DUDE LOST SO MANY GAMES FOR THIS TEAM LAST YEAR!!! EVERY BIG PLAY WE GAVE UP HE SEEMED TO BE INVOLVED IN, HE DID SOMETHING THAT "ONLY" NATE CLEMENTS COULD DO IN ATLANTA. JUST REPEATEDLY ALL SEASON GAVE UP GAME CHANGING AND ULTIMATELY LOSING PLAYS......f**kIN RIDICULOUS.

Overrated 6th round pick? yeah...mmmokay
Terrel Brown.
i think Gore can still be very productive back, he averaged 4.2 ypc and had over 800 yards till he got hurt (don't remember which week he got hurt 10th or 11th i believe). its just that we haven't been creative with him since Norv left. We just continue to bash him up the middle of a sub average O line. He can still run it and he's always one of our best receivers.

His hip didn't require surgery and there was even talks that if we made the playoffs that he might've been able to return. And before this injury he had only missed 5 games in his career. Frank Gore is still the man IMO.
wait wait i know i know

joe nedney lol shante spencer demetrice evans
i hate to say it, but getting something for gore while he has value is prob the right move! he's the best pro, hate to see him go, but gotta cash in at your highest
First of all, Gore is coming off hip surgery.

Second of all, if Gore is such a tradeable asset because so many backs like him can be found in the draft, why in the world would some other team trade for him?

Does that make sense to anybody?

I can only surmise this is sarcasm since he is a second year player.

you talking about the 2004 Patriots 6 years ago? They had Corey Dillion who had 345 carries with the next man (Kevin Faulk) having 54 I would say Dillion was BY FAR the bell cow and they were NOT a multi back set.

The Saints (Thomas, Bush, Bell) Colts (Addai, Rhodes) and Giants (Jacobs, Ward, Bradshaw) were though
Depends on who's doing the rating
Whats wrong with Franklin? Our run d is still nasty. I think our problems in pass rush are more due to the OLBs. Manny is a scrappy player. He works hard and is very good in run support. As much as people looooove to think he is an amazing cover LB, he is overrated in this aspect. He is good, but not great, just solid.

However, when it comes to pass rushing, he sucks goat balls.

I say we gotta unload Soapoaga. Man I was scared to death when he was last a FA thinking that he was gonna FINALLY live up to his potential and be a dominant 3-4 DE setting the edge and continuously occupying 2 blockers.

Hes just a really strong dude that barley makes a impact. Better to let McDonald start in his place.
