Really I have no idea who will be available or who will start at QB but McNabb would do a good enough job to win the NFC west while we look for the next great West Coast QB.
We don't have one right now. Kolb, McNabb, Alex back again? I don't know. We have to figure something out for the beginning of the season. Harbaugh is the best QB develper around so we are in good hands that way.
I dont know if its just me, but it seems like the QB position in the league is at a low. It doesnt seem like there is a lot of QB talent. Apart from the several teams with franchise QB's.
I would say this is going to be a challenging year for the 9ers to solve a temp QB problem. Most comfortable i would feel is probably Orton but that might be unlikely. Orton about 10 weeks into the season was on pace for Marinos yards record. He made Brandon Lloyd a pro bowler.
Maybe Kolb second i am not thrilled with him though. And Mcnabb third.
I think with either of those 3 we could potentially win now. Win the division.
I honestly want to pick a QB first round in draft though and have one of the fore-mentioned as interim. I think a guy like Mallet who needs work could do great with Harbaugh with all his athletic ability. Definitely think Blaine Gabbert is under radar but we should get him if possible. Even someone like Dalton or Stanzi slipping into the second Harbaugh could do good work with. I definitely want to draft QB early and have him sit and learn.

I don't think it's a bad idea under Harbaugh. He's not the same QB developer of Dingleberry and NoWin. The thing is if we bring in a rookie or a castoff FA we could be 3 - 13. Honestly I think Alex can get us 8 - 8 next year. With Harbaugh's coaching we can maybe squeeze out 9 - 7 and buy a year to develop a rookie or whoever we bring in. Really we could be worse if we let Alex go and as crazy as it sounds it must be considered. I can't emphasize how much better of a QB developer Harbaugh is.

I really think Smith could be developed. Harbaugh is what he always needed from the beginning. Do you really want to line up with some rookie and go 2 - 14. Obviously Alex is better than any rookie at this point.
