Jerry Rice was selfish. Michael Jordan was selfish...

It had to do with STATS. Him wanting his STATS. Westbrook not seeing the field because of Frank's STATS.

You can't get STATS without getting the BALL.

And as I said earlier, Westbrook isn't as good as Frank Gore. Everyone wanted to see him and whined about him not getting the ball, but since Gore went down, Westbrook has done absolutely nothing Frank Gore couldn't have done. He's only had maybe a handful of good plays since Gore went down.

I don't give a damn if Gore was worried about his stats or not. The fact of the matter is when his stats look good, we have a much better shot at winning the game. Period. If he's concerned about his numbers, good.

No one wanted Westbrook to get the bulk of the carries. The team didn't use his skills because he wasn't on the field. We really couldn't spread the defense as well or be more unpredictable because Westbrook was only in the game 2 times and it was obvious what was going to happen. Now if you have him share more snaps, then we can be more unpredictable than Gore between the tackles.

Jordan still demanded the ball while he was getting triple teamed and clobbered. I don't think Rice ever yelled "I am triple covered, throw me the damn ball."

Are you seriously gonna sit there and talk about being unpredictable under Mike Singletary?

If that is all you are looking at, then you are not paying attention to the big picture. Heck, even with this not so insightful observation, you must have noticed that there were a lot of other good players on those teams that won titles.

All I know is that Gore better not be complaining next year when we use more personnel on offense.

Hell yes he is selfish. All great players are. But he would never be happy if he went for 200 yards and we lost. Gore is a winner first and foremost.

All I know is they better get a head coach who knows how to make good decisions on the offense side, and who can manage player's attitudes when they get annoyed about having to share. There are always players on every team that want more glory for themselves. Strong teams manage this with no issues that hurt performances on Sunday.

ok then, what are you trying to say? I don't see the relevence of championships to a discussion on a common personality trait amongst top competitors in a team sport that is dependent on so much more than what that one player does on the field.
has his attitude ever hurt the feeling/mood in the locker room? if not, who cares? in any case its the coaching staff that dictates who gets what and when. if they don't want to pull gore because they're worried about his ego then that's on them they have the responsibility of overseeing the entire picture on game day. idk i don't think you can blame a player for not wanting to leave the field or coaches dumb decisions.

Tolbert on KNBR brought up a story about Frank Gore being a selfish player.

He was reading a teammates comments regarding what Frank would say in the locker room right after a game. "How many yards did I get today?" in a selfish manner. Also a reason why Westbrook didn't see the field.

Does anyone know about this story? I have been trying to find links but no luck. I still doubt Frank would be about getting his before the team.

btw. i love Frank but i want more info.

Westbrook has done nothing better than Frank Gore since he's been given his chances. People have been whining about not seeing him all year, but they saw WHY Gore continued to get time over him. Aside from one nice catch-and-run and maybe 3 or 4 nice rushes, he's done nothing to brag about and absolutely nothing Gore couldn't have done.

I think the biggest gripe people had about westbrook is that almost everyone envisioned a package where westbrook and gore could be on the field at the same time, thus having TWO playermakers on the field. I think both are great players that is was somewhat of a letdown it never happened.
