We are made of of 4-3 players. Unless we can get a successful 3-4 DC in here, (ex.Wade Phillips). I just see us being smarter to go back to the 4-3.
Our defense is not the Steelers, or the Ravens D, but it's still a damn good D. This year and last year, was the best defense that we've had in a long time. People obviously forgot how atrocious out defense was before we installed the 3-4.
We have very little personnel for a 4-3. Who are our great edge rushers? Lawson??? Haralson??? LaBoy?!?!?...Sopoaga is NOT a 4-3 tackle, 4-3 DT's are supposed to get some penetration and disrupt plays in the backfield, does that sound like Sopoaga? or Franklin?...JSmith has never played full time 4-3 DT, and I doubt at this point in his career he's going to want to learn a new system. Besides Spencer, we don't have ONE good cover DB, and you need good cover DB's in a 4-3.
4-3 defense is old fashioned. The only 4-3 D worth a s**t in this league, is the Vikings, however, we don't have two true DT studs like they do, or a great DE. Jets, Steelers, Ravens, Chargers, this is what you think of when you talk about great defenses, and soon we can start throwing the Pats, Packers, and Chiefs into that mix...3-4 > 4-3.
um what the hell about the Giants nasty 4-3 Defense in 08?
I wont go as far as to say the Vikes are the ONLY good 43, but there aren't a lot. Look at the top DEFs in the league... the top 4 are all 34 DEFs. IMHO our biggest problem is the secondary. I think Manusky was hessitant to send extra rushers because the man coverage on the back end is suspect at best. The Secondary is SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWW. Add a solid coverage corner, or two and be more aggressive with the front 7 and this defense is a WHOLE lot better.

You're right, so as soon as we switch to the 4-3, we are gonna get 3 pro-bowl D linemen...nice.

Our defense is horrible.. what are u talking about. We need a good DC Ron rivera
I wouldn't call 13th ranked defense yards wise terrible, neither the 16 in PA, that's more like average...

And how long did that defense stay nasty? 1 season? Well I'm definitely sold on the 4-3 now.

It's more about Identity for me. I don't expect immediate results, but you have to admit to the wealth of WCO film here. The next offensive hire should be WCO oriented, IMO.

Power running isn't our style. It makes sense in Chicago to play good defense and have a power running game because of the extreme weather, but in San Francisco, I think most people want a more exciting type of football. Let's get back to our roots.

you can forget harbaugh as coach. he will never come to this disfunctional franchise. In the coming days the dorks will get ripped in the media as to how their main targets for coach have spurned them to take jobs with other nfl teams. We will continue to be the laughing stocks of the nfl. SHOCKER. LUCK AND HARBAUGH TO CAROLINA.

The WCO offense or any passable variant entertains me. Even when we're losing.

To me it makes more sense to focus on upgrading our personnel in the secondary instead of installing a whole new scheme for the entire D.
An improved secondary and a QB who can convert 3rd downs is all we need to get to the promised land.
