4. First playoff team in history with a 7-9 record. -This could prompt the entire league to change the playoff system during the next CBA meetings/resolutions (and ruin the game even more). Not to mention it'll assign us an embarrassing title, the '7 & 9ers'. -It will become a forever slang/stain for this era of 49er football; something adjacent to the 'Bungles'.

5. We'll be missing out on 5-star coaching FAs/prospects (once again).

Everybody wants to win in the 'now', but winning in the now could set this team back 3 more years within the actual 'future' spectrum of time.

Good post

Im glad more fans are beginning to see that light. Instead of saying "oh Im a die hard niner fan and I never root for my team to lose. "

If you guys hate the current coaching staff so much, what makes you think we'll do anything with that 8th pick. and Jed isn't retarded he is going to fire Mike and Company unless we win the super bowl. The only worry i would have is the scheduling for opponents for next year, but thats worth making it to the playoffs
forget it

To each his own my friend.

To me a meaningless playoff game in which we would get our asses handed to us just dont mean that much. I would much rather have the higher pick and the increased likelihood of a new coaching staff and GM.

But good for you if you chose to root the other way.

I see it as a win/win situation, if we make the playoffs i'll be happy and if not we'll have a much better pick.

P.S. I do have money on us making the playoffs from a bet I made in July

I learned many years ago never bet on this team for anything, hopefully a new coach can change that.

~ No GM for 2011. Who needs one? Current system is working fine...

You forgot one, National media circus over "the worst team in history to make the play-offs". Imagine EVERY national sport talk show, examining the issue, "Should the NFL change the play off seeding, to prevent teams like the 49ers from going to the post season?"
Then in the ultimate insult the NFL passes.... "the Niner Rule"...gulp forever enshrined as a bellwether for failure!

What a potential media circus with us as the ass clowns!

I for one will always root for my team, I bleed red and gold!

No doubt there will be a media circus, but the rules won't change for something that happened once in 40 plus years

I live in Portland, and we pretty much only have national sports shows on the radio, and I have been hearing for the last couple of weeks rumblings that IF the 49ers make the play offs, the commissioner should step in and not allow us to play! Imagine a 9-10 win NY Giants or Green Bay not in the play offs and 7-9 49ers in!

Commissioner isn't going to s**t if the Niners make it. That must be settled in the CBA. That is completely false. He may as well extend the season 2 more games this year if he can do that.

I agree, I was just passing along to national sentiment, up here in Portland, the only time I hear about the Niners on radio or TV is when some A-hole east coast ESPN b league host is demanding something be done if the NFC west winner does not have a winning record, ass holes all of them! I miss my KNBR, even Ralph, you don't know what you got till it's gone!

I agree with this post. The short-term stuff would be bad about losing draft pick and possibly having Singletary stay. But the worst would be going down in history as the worst team to ever make the playoffs, after an almost 100% sure ass-whooping in the first round.

If you think about how mathematically unlikely it is that all 4 teams could have losing records, it really makes it seem awful heh.
Let's do this and let's hope to make the playoffs. If we do, we won. Exactly be backing into the playoffs. It would make us 6-4 in our last 10 games. If the season schedule was reverse and we were 6-4 going into week 11 facing the Saints, you all, myself included would be excited and positive because we would have confidence and momentum. Winning a road game and closing the season against a division rival thriving to be our spoiler isn't going to be easy. But if we do it, then we have momentum and confidence.

If we make the playoffs at 7-9, we better win the Superbowl.

This is where I draw the line of my fandom and do not cross it. No superbowl this year...I want Singletary gone. Although, a SB would be nice.

The 49ers could have a new slogan---

49ers football---it's torture.

We could play the Saints, Bears and Falcons in the playoffs----we were competitive with all 3 this season ( Saints and Falcons) and last ( the Bears).

then maybe we play the Colts---who we played tough----and WIN the Super Bowl!

nah---we probably lose to the Rams on Sunday---

This is why i don't wanna make the playoffs.

theres no need to worry. I said over 3 weeks ago we would lose to the rams in their stadium. Still holds true. No way this pathetic team even competes against a young up and coming team with a qb thats a rookie and currently slumping. WE SUCK>

haha wrong.

1. Sing ain't coming back short of winning the Super Bowl. This has been well documented that if he's 'one and done' he's fired.

2. Guaranteed loss, really? Didn't we already play New Orleans at home? Who takes the 2nd game of the regular season like it's bu*****t? Bulls**t! The Saints are who we thought they were! And we let 'em off the hook!
