the only problem is, if we make the playoffs, our draft pick slot sucks. were going to be one and done most likely even if we make it, and then wed get re-slotted in the draft to at least pick 21.

but, as much as i want to talk myself into missing the playoffs so we can have a decent draft slot next year, im going to be pulling for us to win this division no matter what. i wish i could side with common sense, but were so playoff starved, i dont really care how we get back in. getting back is a start.

yes our draft slot would lower of course but that might also be a good sign in a way. Now we won't have to worry about reaching for a guy like Mallet, Newton, or Locker and I'm almost certain ONE of them will fall to the 20's or 2nd round (they always do). We can also get good value for Ras I Dowling, CB from Virginia as he would be great value in the 20's so we will still have PLENTY of options.

To top it off, I think Free Agents will be more inclinded to visit us seeing that we are a playoff team WITH money and the division is STILL not going to be that great next year so we'll be contenders no matter how you look at it. I think if we can add a quality veteran O-lineman and a pass rusher OR secondary help, we will be just fine. We can pick up whatever position we don't address via free agency, through the draft.

I'll take the playoffs anyday as you can see from our #1 overall pick in 2005, our 1st and 2nd round pick in 2008 for example, draft picks are NOT guaranteed

Niners...playoffs...hmm, something just doesn't sound right. For those so sure they'll beat the Rams in St. Louis, all I'll say is don't be so sure of yourselves. This team on the road is a bad bet...they've won exactly one road game all season...against the horrible Cards...unless you want to count the win in London against an equally horrible Broncos team (we were the 'home" team there). Much as I'd love to see this team seize the opportunity, it'd also likely mean Jed retaining Singletary...which I'd hate.

The only place we have struggled on the road is in Seattle. The "horrible" Cards beat the Rams in St. Louis and Bradford hasn't been playing that good in his past 3 games INCLUDING looking like trash AT HOME yesterday.

Their secondary still sucks and they still can't stretch the field on offense. Maybe teams are just starting to catch on that all they do is dink and dunk and try to manage the game on offense and now are forcing them to make plays and they can't do it

Are we bad on the road? absolutely but the Rams are bad everywhere and we own the NFC West. The Rams couldn't even stop Troy after they came off their bye week, that's how bad their secondary is. They gave up 8 plays for over 20 yards plus 2 defensive PI's for 38 yards and 22 yards. We practically tried to hand them the game with all our penalties including two that brought back two TD's and they couldn't take the game. The Rams are still the Rams people, let's not fool anyone here

Get out of here with that. I'm tired of this crap. Sing is gone when Sing is gone. That time will come at the end of the season. But right now, our Niners are still playing for the playoffs. And I'm tired of this crap. Make no mistake, I'm not under the delusion that if we DO go to the playoffs that Jed will retain Sing. I know he's gone, barring a superbowl win. I just don't understand how anyone can't see that it's almost more embarrassing to make it to the playoffs at 7-9 than to not go at all.

Couple that with the fact that once in the playoffs we WILL witness a heartbreaking, soul crushing loss where we are dominated by a much better and much more well-prepared team, it just doesn't sound that fun.

What do you expect to happen? That the 49ers will 'find themselves' if they somehow get to the playoffs? That one of the Smiths will FINALLY step up to the plate and QB this team successfully? That we might just "gel" and become dominant? Our defensive secondary will finally start stopping some teams? Are you kidding me? Isn't that what we've been hoping for every week this season, and yet somehow, each loss manages to crush us worse than before?

It puts us out of position to draft a difference maker next year. NOT going to the playoffs means we draft 8th overall. GOING means we draft 21st. More winning in the long term > false hollow victories with a doomed staff that has no future/potential.

Sing himself will never be a good coach, unless the last nail is placed in his run-up-the middle coffin once and for all. He needs to learn in a humiliating and shameful way that he knows very little about coaching winning football. This one isn't related so much to the 49ers, but there is a revenge factor tied into him ruining this season and running (literally) the 49ers into the ground.

There is obviously a regime change coming next year and I want to use these next games to evaluate other talent on the roster. Nate Davis? More Anthony Dixon? It would help us out in terms of knowing what we are doing this off-season.
