The team better off without Frank Gore?
Hell f**k no!

Is the team better off running a more opened up offense and not relying on the running back alone?
Yes

Good point, but unfortunately it appeared that the presence of Gore gave Singletary the excuse to rely on his idea of "smash-mouth" offense.

Sadly!

BLAME SINGLETARY!

It amazes me at how concerned Sing seems to be with Westbrooks health... but had no problem running Gore straight into a brick wall 15 times a game. To Gore's credit sometimes he ran THROUGH that brick wall. You would have thought he would have given him some breathers along the way... Dixon and Westbrook seem to be doing fine now, I'm sure they would have been just as good in a limited role before.

ya I wish we looked for Vernon on vertical routes at least every other drive or about once a quarter. Vernon can move field position and create 30-40+ yard plays more than our best RB.

It sucks he had 62 yards on the first drive, but finished with 70. Vernon has "disappeared" in games way to often this year w or w/o Gore.

Yes. Look, Gore is a great back, but the Lions revolved around Barry Sanders for a decade and they were a s**tty team, despite having arguably the best back of all time. You can't design your team around a back IMO. They don't last long enough. If you get a good QB and passing attack, it can anchor your offense for 10-15 years. The same cannot be said for an offense built around a great back.
Gore is a better runner but Westbrook is a better receiver. That's not say that Gore isn't a good receiver or Westbrook isn't a good runner. The great thing about having them both could be that Gore doesn't necessarily=run and Westbrook doesn't necessarily=pass. Gore would have been chased down from behind today on that long TD pass. Gore doesn't have that elite speed and has left a lot of TD's on the field because of that. I imagine pre-double knee injuries in Miami he probably did have that elite speed. It's a miracle he plays at the level he does. Gore isn't the only weapon we have and it's been that way for a while now. Its sickening to see what could have been all season long. AD is only going to get better as well. I'm for keepin BW next year. He's hardly been used this year. He's still plenty baddass.
Only one other player in the NFL is as large a part on his teams offense as Frank Gore is to the Niners. That player is Steven Jackson, and the Rams have had a similar lack of successes.

The NFL is a passing league, and football is a true team sport, nothing against Frank the man is a warrior, bur stone age football doesn't cut it in the 21st century.
If one guy accounts for 45% of your total offense, then you do the math. Gore was their biggest threat running and receiving and was also one of their best pass protectors. Singletary definitely put the team's success squarely on Gore's broad shoulders, and it cost him.

So 94% say yes.

End Thread.
Yes. He's such a good RB that he became our crutch. We failed to develop our passing game because and was easier and safer to put the ball in Gore's hands. I think having him out of the lineup fo a while is exactly what this offense needed. We have to learn how to move he ball without him.
Watching that game just reminded me of how much Singletary has held the team back for the 12 previous games.
Looks like 93% of the board like the Mike Johnson approach better than the Jimmy Raye/Mike Singletary approach.
I feel the team was too focused on using gore and neglected to use other backs like westbrook in backfield on 3rd downs it would have kept gore fresh he probably would not be hurt now and would be available for playoff run

You mean 7% of this board is made up of Singletary's relatives? If not, that would mean 7% are crazy which I refuse to believe.
I really hate the saying "blessing in disguise" ..because I never want to see any 49ers getting hurt ..but with Frank on the shelf, the offense must spread the ball around to others and allow them to make plays, we wont be so predictable anymore, and with Westbrooks skills catching the ball out of the backfield, and getting Morgan, Walker and Dixon more involved in the offense, it will give Crabtree and Davis more room to be effective, there are a lot of weapons on the roster, and there is no excuse for being one dimensional and predictable anymore , lets hope we win these last three games ...Anything is possible
