WHAT!!! Why would you bring in the smaller back on 3rd down? Sorry but you start Westbrook and throw in some dashes of Dixon.
Probably Westbrook.

~ More speed.
~ Better moves.
~ More quickness.
~ More experience.
~ More proven.

Dixon is strictly a pounder best utilized in short yardage.

Agreed that you start Westbrook (he's just a much batter back at this point), but you ABSOLUTELY leave Westbrook in on the third down.

*Better receiver
*Better in blitz pickup

3rd down is more situational. If it is 3rd and short you utilize Dixon. 3rd and yards you no doubt leave Westbrook on the field.
Are you not entertained!?!?!

I hear what you're saying, but Dixon doesn't seem to be particularly good in short yardage. Sadly, without Frank 3rd and yards Westbrook, 3rd and short pass.
Platoon should be the new starting RB.

What is one thing that Dixon does better than Westbrook at this point?

Seriously.

(and don't say "move the pile", Dixon doesn't, never has).

He keeps Westbrook healthy and reduces his downs. That's the entire concept of the platoon.

Especially with a concussion prone back like Westbrook, you'd think that this would be self-evident.

You can argue with me until you're blue in the face, but the math is on my side. Platoons are much more successful than franchise backs, and they're more prone toward winning. The correct answer really is, "Platoon."

I bet we dump Andrus and sign another RB
This is like asking if we should start Gore over Dixon. Westbrook is a pro-bowler and still in great shape. The Niners have been fools not to utilize him more up to this point. I do hope they let Dixon play more 1-for more experience 2- to Give Westbrook a rest. Which is what they should have been doing more when Gore was healthy.

Westbrook is not an every down back anymore. He's perfect coming in on 3rd downs and catching those screen passes.

Regardless of who starts, the snaps must be shared. After all, both backs are fresh and rested right now, so let's try to keep it that way.
