Jon Gruden and The Coaching Situation

Gruden is probably being cautious about what he says as he doesn't want to be linked to anymore "potential" HC gigs after he just stated that he is committed to espn.

Ok I have to admit I was a little disapointed. I am one of those hoping that Jon Gruden is our next coach, because of this I was paying extra close attention to his opinions of our players. Unfrortunatly I did not hear him say anything worth mentioning exept that he seemed to like Nate Clements. I was really hoping for more.

After the game I watched the CSN Bay Area postgame show and they leaked something about Peter King saying that we are targeting Gruden and Harbaugh as our next coach. Those two would be my finalists so no complaint there. However as they continued to discuss the matter they mentioned the potential lockout and that we may be stuck with Singletary becaue in Ratto's words "They don't want to pay two people to not coach" My question to you guys is does this worry you?

If you guys noticed anything that Gruden said or the CSN thing please add you two cents.

I think what Ratto said, considering the ownership is the Yorks, is a strong possibility. The counter point to that is while paying two coaches is costly (are we still paying Nolan, too?), not having fan and local businesses support the team and the new stadium would potentially be much more costly, so a smarter business decision (I hate saying that here) is to get strong interest back in the franchise with one of those guys mentioned. My preference is Harbaugh FWIW.
If a) Gruden wants to return to coaching and b) he wants the 9ers job why would he announce it on MNF over a month before the season is even over?

Desperately hunting for any traces in the tea leaves during last nights game is a fool's errand, imo.

He complimented us a lot because we were blowing someone out. He also said we were atrocious last week.

As for any subtext about what he actually thinks about the 9ers (which has @ss to do if he wants to come here or not), I basically took away that:

1) He likes our young line.
2) He thinks our play calling is still bad.
3) He doesn't like Troy Smith very much.

Actually it's the opposite. He wants his name to be linked to as many as possible.
I really, really, really hope Gruden is not our head coach next year or ever. I just don't understand the love affair people have with him. He won with Dungy's team and then the team fell apart after that.

Not Gruden, please.

You really listened to the game in hopes to hear Gruden give some hints that he wants to come to San Fran? that's pretty lame.

Seconded. Plus, he is almost in Cornheiser's league as a commentator.

I actually like him on MNF and hope he stays there. I don't want him not finding a QB here for the next few seasons but having like 6 on the roster.
