I was kinda young when barlow played, but did he ever dive in the endzone like Dixon does?
that was a horrible dive
He kind of jumped straight in the air lol
The poor guy just doesnt run fast enough to gain that type of momentum...
it almost reminded me of someone trying fly like superman but going straight up in the air. I saw that and was like "wtf was that

....oh wait he scored

Easy fellas, if you look at the replay, he had a Cardinal wrapping his ankles up as he was taking off and he carried that weight through his leap, until it stopped him just beyond the goal line. It was ugly as sin to look at, but a great indication of how much mass (in a physics sense) Mr. Dixon has going for him. If nothing else, the kid has a ton of inertial energy on his side ;)
Edit: It must have been a CB that wrapped his ankles as he made his leap, so figure that leap was made with an exponentially increasing quantity of 185-95 lbs of dead weight around his ankles. Quite an impressive (if ugly) feat of athleticism.

The only things Dixon has in common with Barlow
1) Too tentative hitting the hole, causing holes to close up and both of them being unable to break tackles at the line b/c they haven't built up any momentum.
2) A lack of breakaway speed.
Barlow was on oversized finesse back who wasn't quick enough and ran too upright. He had excellent vision but just didn't have the other skills required to utilize it.
Dixon on the other hand punishes people when he gets to the second level. He just doesn't get to the second level often because he runs like a finesse back.
Dixon will either develop or not, but there's no reason to be excited by him at this point. If you put him in a one cut zone blocking scheme and could teach him to just go I think he might be a good player.

Still does a little too much dancing.
Yeah, he has a dirty habit of doing that little juke once he's made his cut. Given his impressive power, I think he'd be better served by lowering his pads and carrying his energy into shedding tackles, rather than squandering it on jukes that nobody buys in the NFL.
Kind of reminds me of Lesean McCoy of last year. now they are totally different style backs, but last year McCoy would dance a little too much instead of hitting the hole. this year he hits that hole. It should be the same for Dixon once he gets more time on the field.

He was rated as a bell cow back and a second round pick by Lindys draft guide. Give the guy a break, he is a steal of a back in the 6th round. Great draft pick.

Dixon will be fine once he learns to just hit the hole. You'll see.
